Disaster Preparedness: Nutrition Edition

When you think about disaster preparedness and food, nutrition is probably not the first thing to come to mind. But many of the foods that are best for an emergency stash -- things like canned soups and preserved vegetables and meats -- can be high in sodium, fat and preservatives. Joy Bauer recommends foods that are high in protein like canned beans, wild salmon, sadines and canned tuna and chicken. She also reminds us to reserve one gallon of water per person, per day for a total of three days.

As infrastructure crumbles and economies worsen and climate changes we will see more and more disasters that a responsible person has to prepare for as best they can.
