Jessica Chastain's Oscar Nomination Reaction: Armani Crowd Applauds Surprised Star

Jessica Chastain

While attending the Armani Prive show in Paris on Tuesday morning, Jessica Chastain got word that she had been nominated for her portrayal of Celia Foote in "The Help" in the Best Supporting Actress category. She was surprised, to say the least, putting her hand over her mouth in sheer joy.

In addition to celebrating with Cameron Diaz, who was sitting next to the actress, Chastain got a standing ovation from the crowd. Pretty good for someone who wasn't even walking on the runway.

Chastain had a banner 2012, between her roles in "The Help," "The Tree Of Life," "The Debt," "Texas Killing Fields," "Take Shelter," and a number of other films. This year should be equally big; she is slated for three 2012 films including "Mama," "Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted," and "Wettest County."

I caught her in a somewhat cheesy movie on cable in the middle of the night with her in the title role. It was called Jolene. She was so good in it I had to stay up for the whole thing. She is what made the movie interesting. I remember thinking this girl is so talented, good for her that she got the lead in a movie. I think that she will be entertaining people with her talents for a very long time. Good for her!

She does good work. I loved her in The Help. A deserved nomination.

So glad she's been nominated. She really brought out the humanity of the character instead of making it a stereotypical sexy blonde.

I completely agree. And she was so completely different in that role than in "The Debt," the only other role of hers I've seen.

Can't wait to see "The Debt." Yeah, she seems almost more like a character actor than a movie star, though she is certainly beautiful enough to be the latter as well.

Actually, 'The Help' wasn't her best performance but I'm happy she is finally getting the accolades she deserves. i thought her performance in 'The Tree of Life' and 'The Debt' were Oscar worthy too. We are going to see her on the podium a lot folks. She is a Juilliard trained actress. Her acting range is phenomenal.

Really, she deserved to be nominated for all four of her performances this year. So happy for her!

How could she not be nominated for "The Tree of Life"? That was a fantastic performance. Reminds me when Dennis Hopper got nominated for "Hoosiers" the year he made "Blue Velvet" and "The River's Edge"!

It would have been nice if they had video for this story. These pictures do nothing to capture her reaction to the announcement.

She was one of my favorite characters in The Help. I have been wanting to see The Debt, and will probably rent it this week. Congratulations!

The Debt was quite good. Not as good as I expected but still worth seeing.

She was very good in "The Debt" but the movie was way overrated

Agreed. Chastain and Helen Mirren were the best parts of "The Debt." The movie could have been so much better if the male roles were better cast. Instead, the one young male actor more resembled the older actor playing the older version of the other male character. This became extremely confusing and lessened the impact considerably.
