Stacey English Case: Body Found In Atlanta

A body was found Monday in Southeast Atlanta not far from where the car of Stacey Nicole English, a 36-year-old woman who went missing days after Christmas, was previously found abandoned, Atlanta police announced.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office is conducting an autopsy on the remains, and agency officials said they expect to have a positive identification later Tuesday.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said authorities received a 911 call around 3 p.m. Monday.

"The decedent appeared to be that of an African-American female, but due to state of the body a positive identification could not be made at this time," Jones said in an email to The Huffington Post.

A group of men searching for scrap metal found the body under a tree in a heavily wooded area near the Aaron's Amphitheater at Lakewood, media reports said. The location is roughly one mile from the spot where police found English's car abandoned, but still running, on Dec. 27.

There was initial speculation that the tree could have fallen on the victim, but neighbors told reporters that the tree had been down for some time.

"It looks like [the body] might've been stuffed there," Warren Blackman, a resident, told Channel 2 Action News.

The victim had on khaki pants and was "buried face-down with her feet in the air," according to local resident Brandy Farmer, who also spoke to the TV station.

Police have yet to confirm the reports.

English was reported missing by relatives on Dec. 27. Her cellphone, iPad and the device that opens the gate to her condominium complex were found inside her home, but her white, four-door 2006 Volvo S60 was missing.

English attended a Christmas gathering at her grandmother's on Dec. 25. Afterward, she returned to her home in the exclusive Vanderbilt complex in the Buckhead neighborhood.

Robert Kirk, a nightclub promoter from St. Louis, was visiting with English, her parents said. On the night of Dec. 26, the two allegedly got into an argument and she asked him to leave. Nobody has seen English since that night.

Authorities recently said that Kirk has been cooperative and is not considered a suspect or person of interest in the case.

A Facebook page called "Help Find Stacey English" had a message posted on it late Monday night saying the family is "thankful and humbled by everyone's love, support and prayers." The message also states they are anxiously awaiting word from police on the identity of the body found Monday. "There has been no official confirmation that the body found...is that of Stacey English. Keep praying," the message reads.

English is 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighs approximately 120 pounds. She has brown eyes and shoulder-length brown hair with blond highlights.

The family is asking anyone with information regarding English's whereabouts to contact the Atlanta Police Department at 404-614-6544.

When I hear about someone missing, I always hope there's a logical explanation and that they're OK...but it so often it turns out this way.

My condolences to the family. But the police dropped the ball on this one. Hers was a case of foul play and I do have an inkling as to why the police didn't give her case a higher priority, Any clues as to what may have happened to her are now gone. The culprit was able to erase his tracks completely.

My condolences to the family and friends of this beautiful young lady. There is another young lady still missing in St. Louis under similar circumstances and with a connection to a man who also was associated with Miss English. These abductions and others of minority persons who are missisng have not been given adequate national media coverage. CNN had a brief story on these cases, but I never saw them reported on any other network. Why is this? The "person of interest" in these cases may be linked to others. Families and friends of other missing women would probably recognize the similarities and alert their police departments. It is so important to get the word out.

I remember hearing that the "person of interest" you mention was was cleared--but nothing further since then. I pray that they find the perpetrator of both crimes. My heart goes out to both families.

Body ID'd as missing Buckhead woman.
The Fulton County chief medical examiner confirmed Wednesday that a body found in southeast Atlanta is that of Stacey Nicole English, the Buckhead woman who has been missing since late December. Fumble???? The ball hit them in the face, and they missed it!!!! A late model car is found left running on the side of the road, yet the police simply impound it. The owner is not notified of the impound; a family friend sees it at the pound and tells them. They obviously did not do a one-mile area search. This gives new meaning to "dropping the ball."

I truly hope you are wrong. I may be a dreamer--but I would think our law enforcement community as a whole is above that!!! I know the police in my town would not behave in that manner at all, no matter race, color, or creed.

An anticipated ending to another horror story. Even if it is not her, it is someone's loved one. This is just one big messed up world. Some of the best days of my life occured when I quit reading the news.

Despite how terrible it is that she has been apparently been found dead, and I hope for her family's sake it's a mistake and she will walk in the front door tomorrow alive and well, it DOES mean so much to a family to KNOW where there loved one is and what happened to them. I know from my own brush with a missing person's case that there's nothing like not knowing -- no way to mourn let alone move on when every moment is spent wondering where they are and how you can find them. Sad to say but it truly does allow a family to mourn and move on; to replace the pain with joyous memories of happier times as well as embrace the love the person gave to them. Nothing ever rids you completely of the pain and there will still be times of torment but being allowed to mourn instead of forever searching and wondering does allow you to embrace the happy times and to wrap yourself in memories of pure love. Nothing rids you of the heartbreak but love and warm memories ease it a great deal.

It also helps to know that known that no matter what happened your friend/loved one wants you happy and would've thought of you and worried about the pain they caused you. Believe me, they want you to go on and be as happy as possible -- to remember the love not the heartache.
