Mitt Romney: Actually, My Tax Rate 'Really Closer To 45 Or 50 Percent'

Mitt Romney

ThinkProgress:

During an interview with Univision, Romney was pressed on whether it was fair for him to pay about 13 percent of his income in taxes — as he did in 2010, according to his recently released tax returns — when many middle class families pay far more. Romney proceeded to claim that his actual rate is “closer to 45 or 50 percent.”

He repeated this fiction in last night's debate as an aside (and got away with it). Look for this to become a mantra in the weeks to come...

Mitt Romney ...telling just one more lie ...

Of course you libs look at ThinkProgress for your news which is never a good thing if the truth matters. Romney was saying the 40% number as a combination of how much money he pays in taxes plus the amount he donates to charity which is significantly higher than ubber liberal Obama...for the record.

Donations to charities are tax deductible there by lowering the amount of one's gross and in turn lowering ones taxable income.
The 2 million dollars Mitt gave to the Mormon Church reduced his taxable income which is part of the reason his tax bracket was reduced along with the fact that Mitts income was mainly from Capital Gains which are taxed at the much lower rate of 15%.
Oh, and as a side note, A Corporations taxes are not included in Romney’s individual tax assessment.
Mitt is a con artist, I can’t believe you’d buy into this, perhaps this link will help clarify things for you.

I think he's all wet. I looked at Romney's 2010 tax return -- there was a great deal of tax savings from foreign taxes paid by his investments. He is implying that there are U.S. taxes being paid by companies he's invested in, that he sort of indirectly pays, but there don't seem to be any U.S. companies at all. Don't let him get by with such a statement.

I don't really care that Romney paid 15% for the taxes on income he didn't hide..

- What I REALLY want to know is why he keeps so much of his $$ in off shore accounts. (???)
- Why he doesn't think his earnings - whatever form they come in - should be taxed. (???)
- Why his company lobbied so hard in 2007 to block a bill that would have taxed some of these hidden funds. (???)

Thought only drug cartels & mobsters hid their $$ in overseas accounts. Don't think it's unreasonable to ask a presidential candidate why he does it too.

He needs to shelter it because $250,000,000 is not nearly enough.

Mitt Romney made his money through debt financing. The CBO says that the effective corporate tax rate in debt financing is -6.4% (CBO data here: http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/67xx/doc6792/10-18-Tax.pdf)

With that being the case, Mitt Romney's actual effective tax rate is closer to 9%.

Here's the real scandal. Do as I say, not as I do. "Fair share"??

Meanwhile, our president talks about paying your "fair share" in taxes, and 36 of his staff and aides owe a combined $833, 000 in back taxes to the IRS. Why is this not news? The media has a responsibility to report news fairly and accurately to the people of this country. I am sure HP will do a large headline story on this newsworthy item. Cheating the system is uncalled for no matter which party is in charge.

lot of people owe money in back taxes. Are they not paying what they owe? I mean I owe money to the Bank for my mortgage. Just because someone owes money does not mean they are not paying it off now does it?
