Before "The View," "20/20," "ABC World News," and "Today," there was Barbara Walters, the high school student. During her teenage years, her father owned nightclubs in New York, Miami and Boston. She attended Ethical Culture Fieldston School and Birch Wathen Lenox School in New York, and graduated from Miami Beach High School in 1947.

Seems she never looked young and fresh as one would think here. Seems she has always looked older than her years, until she WAS OLD, and then she looked young for her age. You don't have to have perfect diction to be on TV. Or be glamorous or thin. Think about it. It takes all kinds.

Barbara Walters: I had an affair with married Senator Edward Brooke

Brooke, the first black member of the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction, was so in love with Walters he told his wife he wanted a divorce.

Enraged, his wife tried to reveal the affair to the National Enquirer, Walters writes. A phone call from a worried friend reminding Walters that Brooke was up for reelection the next year and that her job could be in jeopardy persuaded Walters to call it quits.

"I slowly began asking myself if we could ever be married. Would such a marriage destroy his career? Would it destroy mine?" Walters wonders in the book.

Average looks, nothing to write home about. Walters is not in the same ball park as Elizabeth for looks and brains. Compared to the other witches on the View, Walters is not all that bad.
