Elle Fanning: My Clothes Are Too Weird For Dakota (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 01/26/2012 10:55 am Updated: 03/27/2012 5:12 am

In case you've been living under a rock for the past year, you know just how much of a style star Elle Fanning has become. Not only has she sat front row at shows and hobnobbed with designers, she's also developed an encyclopedic knowledge of fashion.

As older sis Dakota told Teen Vogue, "Elle knows every single model, every single collection, every single piece from every single collection. She has a real passion, and it's not at all in a materialistic way. She genuinely appreciates the workmanship and creativity."

Elle also appreciates wearing cute clothes, meaning she often steals away to her sister's closet and nabs a dress or seven. But in a new interview with ASOS magazine, Elle says that the clothes-sharing is a one-way street:

Do you borrow Dakota's clothes?

Yeah, even though we have different styles, it's one of the biggest fights we get into. She doesn't like it when I sneak into her closet and steal bits and pieces. She doesn't take any of my clothes though. Mine are a bit too weird for her.

Really? Dakota's not a fan of nautical minidresses, boater hats and granny glasses? We're shocked.

But seriously, Dakota should try it out. Elle's offbeat style sense is working for her. She even manages, she says, to funk up her school uniform. She told Asos:

I've just got some '80s men's khaki pants -- super big, but I put a belt around them. And we have a plaid skirt. I keep mine below the knee and it looks really schoolgirlie with a puffy sleeve shirt and socks. And I've just got some Saddle Oxfords [black and white '50s brogues] to wear too.

In other words, chicest middle-schooler ever.

Read more at Asos.com and for more Fanning fashion (and to check out how much "weirder" Elle's style is than Dakota's), check out pics of the siblings below.

Awe, sisters I love it. They were cute little girls, and have grown in to pretty young women. Both are very talent actors.

The W cover looks like little girls playing make-up to look like mommy. Scary that it's supposed to be serious.

Elle who? Whoever is behind this need to quit trying to make her happen. "She sits front row at fashion shows" "appreciates the workmanship" so that makes her?? Oh, the spoiled tag along to her star sister who needs attention too, that's right. God forbid she have to actually become her own person, guess she's not into that kind of creativity. Better to be a paler version of your sister I guess.

Dog Gone, Raymond Fernandez! That's kinda a lot of H8 for a couple of middle school girls, dontchya think? FYI, Elle Fanning was just in the movie "Super 8," wherein I thought she did a terrific job. She's also been in "We Bought a Zoo," "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" and "Phoebe in Wonderland." I haven't seen the Zoo one but the others are good movies and she does a good job. I think what you're experiencing is an ignorance of her work, thereby she appears to you (maybe alone) to 'not be happening.'

BTW, their behavior as sisters living together seems very much like that of all sisters living together. Nothing especially lacking in personality in either of them.

And one more thing... Morrissey was never so hateful in his lyrics unless he'd been wronged. Maybe you shouldn't use his picture to represent you since you seem like almost the opposite of each other.

“Now this might disturb you, but I find I'm OK by myself;
and I don't need you or your benevolence to make sense.”
― Morrissey

“Don't talk to me about people who are nice, 'cause I've spent my whole life in ruins over people who are nice.”
― Morrissey

"To me there's something dramatically ugly about a person who can wear a dress for £6,000 when at the same time there are people who can't afford to eat. When she puts on that dress for £6,000 the statement she is making to the nation is: "I am the fantastically gifted royalty, and you are the snivelling peasants." The very idea that people would be interested in the facts about this dress is massively insulting to the human race."

Clearly Morrissey would disagree with you and you obviously know about as little of him as you claim I do about this waste of space aka Elle....who would not be ANYTHING without her sister having been something. That you would take this manufactured dialogue as proof of their relationship shows how much your head is in the clouds. Dakota is striking looking and talented...Elle is at best the sad stepsister. Paris Hilton has been in films too, should we talk about that? Being in films is not in of itself a mark of any talent and in this case it reeks of nepotism. I know Morrissey would die laughing at the thought of a 13 year old idiot like her taking herself

Two very nice, talented young women. I have never heard anything bad about either of them and have enjoyed the movies they have been in for the most part. Pretty girls. And for rrrich7 they do go to school and are very bright.

these two CHILDREN do not need any publicity - they need to be in school. hate that aspect of Hollywood society that tries to make stars out of children.

They've both grown into beautiful young ladies- I just hope they don't go the way of the Olsen twins and become party girls.

They are very successful- but I wasn't speaking in terms of money. Perhaps you don't know a lot about the Olsen twins but they have a bit of a reputation for partying - a lot. And they themselves have acknowledged that fame at a young age has played a somewhat negative role in their lives. Mary Kate has acknowlegded that it was directly related to her eating disorder. These two girls are very talented and I hope that they don't allow fame at such a young age to have a negative impact on their lives.

"Partying" is a Hollywood euphemism for taking drugs and drinking.

They're kind of creepy looking now.

Especially together.

Especially the way they lean into each other and can't seem to stand up straight.
