Gayle King: Oprah Is Not Blue Ivy's Godmother

Gayle King denied rumors that Oprah Winfrey is the the godmother of Beyonce and Jay-Z's daughter, Blue Ivy.

On Friday, the CBS co-host and Winfrey's best friend said the reports were "absolutely not true." "She's friends with them, of course, and likes them both very much," King said. "She's working on sending them a baby gift. She hasn't even had time to send a baby gift because she's been away."

King was responding to Internet rumors that Beyonce and Jay-Z had chosen Oprah to be their daughter's godmother after growing close to her over the years. Her statement also appears to contradict reports that Oprah already sent this fitting baby gift.

King added, "Let me just say, if true, it is news to her. It is news to her. You know, she was heading to South Africa when the baby was born." Oprah was attending the first graduation of the school she established for underprivileged girls in South Africa.

I'm sure Bey's people put that information in the press to again keep her relevant. Yes, Oprah has shown a 'friendliness' towards Bey/JayZ but you can believe they are NOT hangout friends. Oprah would NEVER be a godmother to anyone's children but Gayle's.

Oprah needs to go into some of the poorest areas of this country and become godmother to some of those kids... I mean, come on! Does Beyonce REALLY need Oprah to buy a truck load of books? How about spreading that light to some of the desperate mothers in this country who steal diapers to make things work? Let's give Oprah a goal of helping mothers birth babies from ghetto to college instead of from ghetto to prison. Our prisons are loaded with so many kids that I have to ask, "Didn't your mother teach you better?" Answer... apparently not. So many kids do not have role models to fashion their lives from. Open "You can read" classes for babies and toddlers AND their mothers! Giving baby gifts to the uber rich... what a waste.

With all due respect, who is to say what Oprah or anyone should do with their time and money? Oprah is not the Messiah, and too many want to heap responsibility on her shoulders that is not her burden to bare. I don't get how a child being born in the ghetto becomes Oprah's problem and responsibility?

You are correct about children in the ghetto not being Oprah's problem. But,since she spends so much time in Africa building schools, while children right here in the United States, where she was born are suffering. You would think that she would reach out and help, sometimes. She certainly has enough money to do so. Just saying.
