Winter Weather Photo Contest: Submit Your Own Pictures

First Posted: 01/28/2012 12:02 pm   Updated: 02/ 2/2012 4:21 pm

UPDATE: Submissions are now closed. Thanks to everyone who submitted their winter photos!

The weather is always unpredictable and this winter, the freezing rain, snow and storms have left particularly dramatic scenes in their wake.

In the month of January, Chicago, D.C. and other regions in the U.S. faced freezing rain, while heavy snowfall in Austria, Afghanistan and U.S. states from New York to Washington left us with images of a winter wonderland.

Beyond winter weather, Texas was recently hit with severe storms, but not enough water to make up for the state's record-breaking drought. In Fiji, flooding and deadly landslides left hundreds homeless this month. According to the Associated Press, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change issued a report in November warning that the world should expect more heat waves, floods, droughts and other "unprecedented extreme weather" caused by global warming in the future.

While severe winter weather has devastated some regions around the world, other storms have created visually stunning scenes. Vote for the best wild winter weather photo below:

I think this is a rigged contest. I've been watching this post just to see if it was legite and the same picture has been in the lead point wise since it came online and it certainly isn't the best photo and its average has not moved in 4 days where everyone elses has???? sounds fishy to me but there are some beautiful photos on here and kudos to the legit entries!

If I see one more "snowy scene" or an ice crystal formation I think I'm gonna puke. There are a few outstanding -- and different -- shots in this group. I do like the truck (#22), the jars through the window (#166), and the train is rather moody (#142) -- although Photoshopped to a fare-the-well. I mean, if originality counts for anything, these shots should be at or near the top of the list. IMHO, of course.

Warmest winter in something like 73 years. All the sudden global warming is ramping up with no real additional activity to mention? Lets be honest, this isn't all manmade is it? Something isn't being accounted for. That would be what? The sun? Yeah, I think that's part of it. I also think we heading through the galactic plane where the entire solar system is being energized and heated up. I've been saying this all winter, we aren't going to have one.

Wish they'd set it up so you could comment on each one individually -- as well as vote on it. Some very nice stuff there.

I don't think a picture of local tornado damage or of our daffodils popping this week would qualify.

Where do submit my photo of winter in Camarillo, CA? It's a shot of me playing golf yesterday. Yeah, I was wearing short sleeves, but I did have long pants on.
