Animal Photos Of The Week

First Posted: 01/29/2012 2:00 pm Updated: 01/29/2012 2:00 pm

Animals were certainly up to some interesting things this week.

A penguin that was visiting the Kentucky Legislature for a bill honoring the aquarium where he lives decided to use the Senate floor as his bathroom. The Kentucky lawmakers were certainly amused.

Animals were making us laugh in other ways too. Check out this hilarious collection of animals photobombing and ruining otherwise normal pictures.

Are you not a football fan? If cute animals are more your thing, get your head in the game for Puppy Bowl VIII. The Puppy Bowl, a celebration of all things cute, will air on Animal Planet next Sunday during the Super Bowl.

This couch potato won't be competing in the Puppy Bowl. In this video, a dog can't get enough of "Marmaduke" on TV.

For more exotic cuteness, be sure to watch this video of a baby aardvark's first steps at a Belgian zoo.

Below, check out some of our favorite animal pictures from the past week, and vote for your favorites:

Saddened by the precious lamb picture which was followed by information regarding the probability it would be consumed as an Easter dinner :-(

The way they kill these babies are horrific. The screaming never leaves you...
The way they kill all animals is a nightmare...We must end this.. Slaughtering animals has went down by a large percent....To us that's great news....

I hope people who don't eat meat can understand the irony of wanting them to be free but not give free choice to humans who eat meat...

All of which is to say that for people to care, the climate–food discussion must be about more than just facts, more than pounds of greenhouse gases per units of food. It’s got to be about morality, about right versus wrong. And I don’t mean the usual morality of environmental “stewardship.” Or even the issue of cruelty to farm animals. I’m talking here about cruelty to people, about the explicit harm to humans that results from meat consumption and its role as a driving force in climate change. Knowingly eating food that makes you fat or harms your local fish and birds is one thing. Knowingly eating food that makes children across much of the world hungry is another

Most people who eat meat don't eat panda, large wild cats or exotic birds.

that is just a rationalization/ people eat cats in other parts of the world yet we find it offensive.
humans will eat anything.

Funny, I had kind of the same reaction. I was thinking "Hey, I hope you people think about this cute little guy next time you order rack of lamb."

I'm a veterinarian. A client brought in an injured pet lamb that had been bitten by a dog, and we hospitalized her for a couple of days. My husband, who used to love rack of lamb, saw the little thing. When I pointed out that's how his delicious rack of lamb started, he said nothing. But, he has never ordered red meat since.

Thank you Debbie
I am sure you are an animal lover too by your chosen profession! I have been following a family of bears in Ely,MN for about two years now. You may be interested. If you visit Bear.org you will find a lot of information. Right now there is a webcam in the den of a wild bear, Jewel, who just gave birth to two cubs last Sunday. The dencams are put in by Wildlife Research Institute/North American Bear Center. Dr. Lynn Rogers, who has been researching bears for over 40 years. You will be amazed at the work he does. You can see the dencam at Wildearth.tv.com. Hope you take a look.

I loved the expression on the calf's face! It is nice to smile at animals instead of always reading bad news and people fighting in the comments section.

reality is that the sole purpose for the existence of these domestic animals who were created by human manipulation is to be exploited, abused and murdered.if you sincerely are against that then you must go vegan.

so it makes you smile while you ignore that these animals will all be slaughtered because most humans lust after meat and animal products including wool, down, honey and silk etc?

Poor little lambs. Incidentally there is also an outbreak of a new virus in Europe causing widespread deformities in lambs.

Surprised its not being mentioned more. ( http://diseaseclimate.blogspot.com/2012/01/new-livestock-virus-appears-to-be.html )

I hate to say this but I hope it turns people off eating lamb. Sad they are raised to slaughter.
