Viola Davis And Octavia Spencer Shine At SAG Awards 2012, Best Dressed Stars (PHOTOS)

Huffington Post     First Posted: 01/29/2012 8:23 pm   Updated: 01/30/2012 8:19 am

The cast of "The Help" were the undisputed stars at last night's 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Viola Davis won the best actress award, Octavia Spencer snagged the best supporting actress trophy and the film's entire cast took home the best ensemble honor.

Davis, who beat out Hollywood heavyweights Meryl Streep and Glenn Close for the top actress title, was a vision in white-- wearing a strapless silk chiffon Marchesa gown with a gold beaded bodice. And thanks to a tasteful dusting of body shimmer, Davis literally shined as she accepted her SAG.

Spencer's love affair with Tadashi Shoji designs continued as she dazzled in a silver creation--she wore an equally beautiful gown by Tadashi at the Golden Globes two weeks ago.

We also loved Regina King in a ruffled lilac Alberta Ferreti gown, Zoe Saldana in a white silk organza Givenchy number and "Glee" star Lea Michele showing some major skin in a Versace dress and Casadei shoes.

Here's a look at all our favorite red carpet moments from the evening. Which outfit do you love?

For those who didn't see Viola Davis close up she looked amazing, her skin is flawless.

Glenn Close looked nice too and so did Cicely Tyson.

I love Zoe Saldana but I didn't care for her dress. It looks like a sari my grandma would wear. I love my sari's but I wouldn't wear one grammy would wear. Viola looked beautiful and Sofia ALWAYS looks stunning.

Am I the only person in America appalled by this. You all must be living in some kind of a cloud. I would never in a million year let any of my Black actresses play a maid, ever.

I know how you feel! I think its great that these ladies are getting the recognition for their acting skills... but at what cost? Playing one of the most subjugated roles know to we as Blacks, a maid. I've never seen the film, and honestly can't really say that I want to see it. t just bothers me that these ladies are receiving such accolades now for that particular role. There have been many blacks who have portrayed strong characters and never received nominations (Regina King for Ray, Lawrenece Fishburne, The Matrix, Angela Bassett, What's Love Got To Do With It, and Denzel for X, the list goes on and on). I don't know how I feel about all of it, but it doesn't make me feel too good...smh, smh

If you didn't see the film how can you give your opinion on what it was these talented actresses were portraying? I think the film (and the book) were very important social essays about a dark time in our history. The fictional characters were strong, smart, kind and generous woman sadly subjugated because of the accepted rules in the south during the Sixties and how they lived with and within their situations. And how they overcame much of the what they had to go through.

That's the only thing that I can't get past. On the one hand, I'm glad that they are being recognized. Yet on the other, its for playing a maid. The first Oscar given to a black actor was for playing a maid/slave. And here it is almost 75 years later and we're still in the same boat. It wouldn't be so bad (because someone has to play the black maid in the 60's), but did they have to pull a 'Mississippi Burning' on us?

I am confused HuffPost... why is this only posted under Black Voices? Shouldn't it be on the Front Page of the Entertainment section? Correct me if I'm wrong... but the SAG awards are pretty universal, right?? Great story...but why not let ALL of your Entertainment viewers read it? Oh.. I forgot, the Kardashians still have a story.

Are you the same King from the old black voices? If so the old people moved over to black visions.
