Golshifteh Farahani, Banned Iran Actress, Supported By Naked Facebook Photos

Golshifteh Farahani

First Posted: 01/31/2012 3:02 pm Updated: 01/31/2012 3:04 pm

While the Iranian government may not be the biggest fan of native actress Golshifteh Farahani after her skin-baring photo shoot for Le Madame Figaro and for appearing partially nude in a short film, the blogosphere is showing her some love. Reuters reports that a Facebook page created in support of the actress has more than 3,400 'likes' and counting.

But her supporters haven't stopped there.

In an act of solidarity, many fans are taking their own nude photos and posting them online, Reuters reports. Farahani was banned from returning to Iran by the country's government after her semi-nude appearances.

The Iranian actress has said that her appearances were in protest of Iran's restrictions on how women are allowed to appear in public, according to The Daily Beast. The Facebook page created in support of Farahani's protest says its goal is "to support Golshifteh's move, in order to say NO to relegion (sic), tradition, culture and anti women's law." The group description ends with the words, "Viva freedom !!!"

Geez... she is stunning. But I don't see how posting naked pictures of yourself is a wise decision.

Unnecessary, yes.
Free? yes.
We should be free to do what we want with our bodies in private and in art.

Women's rights and any religion. You think women are treated well here in the west because the bible is so nice?
10:17 AM on 02/03/2012
good point.  And just how long have women had the vote now?

It is so sad that the Iranian people can have their lives turned upside-down by religious extremism and people hungry for political power, completely ignoring the wishes of the majority. Kind of reminds me of what the current crop of throw-back GOP candidates are talking about!

Operative word being "extremism"... be it Islam or Christianity.

Everyone knows that many females knowingly tempt men with their breasts, and that men are weak and have little self-control. There, I said it. Damn the pushup bra or the no bra look.

Bravo ... this is a prime example of what Women KNOW ... we are all born naked and equal. Because we raise most children until the age of 5 with little input by many, many fathers we are teaching the future women to be oppressed and the future men to be violent to us or each other. We must stop what we are teaching and starting teaching respect, compassion, empathy and all the other qualities that go hand in hand with women/men who have been raised that way.

I'm too old to pose naked but I'm with you. If men can't 'control' themselves we have taught them that. For men who can control themselves we know they have been taught to be respectful toward their sisters, mothers, aunts, friends, girlfriends and wife.

The only reason women are supposed to cover up is because the Koran says "men are weak." I think that passage needs a new interpretation. How about Men are weak, they need to grow up, suck it up, be stronger, and respect women, regardless of how hot they are. Why are we enabling their weakness?

So funny.  Reminded me of my limited Farsi.  My husband was teaching me some few phrases, you know, endearments and the like, and a few more risque comments.  Because they weren't English words I would use them with a bit more abandon, not feeling self conscious.  Drives him insane...lol.
