Jessica Chastain On Meeting Meryl Streep: 'I Was So Shocked'

At least Meryl Streep didn't make Jessica Chastain cry? During the cover shoot for the February issue of Vanity Fair, the Oscar-nominated Chastain recalled a rather nerve-wracking run-in with Streep, while "The Help" star was doing a play in New York.

"I look over and said, 'Is that Meryl Streep?' [My friends] all look over and were like, 'Yes.' And as I said it she turned around and started walking towards me, and that's when everything got kind of foggy," admitted Chastain. "She walked toward me and ... grabbed my hand and was saying beautiful things about the play and my performance. And all I did, because I was so shocked, was I held her hands and went, 'Thank you, thank you. It means so much to me that you came,' and I walked away [laughs]."

Getting nervous around Meryl Streep isn't exactly surprising -- especially for someone like Chastain. During the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Chastain was so moved by meeting Gary Oldman that she burst into tears.

"I just started crying," she recalled. "So Nicole [her publicist] pulled me away. She was, like, 'Let's let you calm down for a second.'"
