Alberta Ferretti For Macy's The Next Designer Collaboration (PHOTOS)

Tired of the designer collaborations yet?

The onslaught continues with Alberta Ferretti for Macy’s, as the Italian designer creates a collection for the department store's Impulse brand.

The announcement of Ferretti's Macy's collab, published in Women's Wear Daily today, comes on the heels of Doo.Ri's Macy's collection, which was unveiled to the press last week.

As WWD notes, Ferretti and Doo. Ri are just two of the six designers to create Impulse collections for Macy's. The most high-profile was Karl Lagerfeld, who presented a line of contemporary pieces in black, white, pink and gray last August.

While Macy's is whipping up these capsule collections at top speed (Ferretti's is the sixth in just about one year), they have failed to garner the deafening buzz of similar collections at Target and H&M.

Target caused the biggest hysteria with Missoni, of course, sending shoppers to eBay to buy the striped goods at a giant markup. Versace for H&M sent shoppers to the hospital after a shopping frenzy got out of hand. And there is already plenty of hype building for the newest collabs: Jason Wu for Target and Marni for H&M.

Alberta Ferretti will have a smaller impact than all of those, given that the Impulse line will be carried in fewer Macy's stores (185 instead of the typical 220 of past collabs). But Macy's is determined to keep up the designer collaborations, planning on a pace of five a year.

Alberta Ferretti for Impulse, inspired by the Amalfi Coast, has a price range of $49 - $119. The collection will hit stores April 17, just in time for spring shopping.

I don't care what Macy's does! I'm a native Chicagoan and when Macy's bought out Marshall Field's they promised they would keep the Field's name at the flagship store downtown even though the other stores would be renamed Macy's. No problem with that. However, they broke their promise and I haven't shopped at any Macy's since - not because it's Macy's, but because they lied!

Neither sketch represents anything close to a real human being. Thanks, but no thanks. I like real people - not images meant to force women into believing something that is never possible to obtain!

If the stuff is made in China using cheap Chinese labor, then it isn't going to be worth the price charged. I flatly refuse to pay outrageous amounts of money for something that is only going to make the wealthiest 1 percent, even richer.

Coach purses used to be made in New York with American labor, but now they are made in China with much cheaper labor that is probably around the same $22 per week as Apple is paying. Coach, Michael Kors and other designers are still charging the same prices as if their products were made by unionized labor in the United States and hauling in the profits making them millionaires going on billionaires. Alberta Ferretti is doing the same thing.

Texier purses that are made in France, Spanish designers that have their real leather purses made in Spain, and Italian designers like Georgio Armani who is still having his stuff made in Italy, are worth the money spent. The quality is there.

Last Coach purse I bought that was made in China had the handles fraying due to the plastic coating wearing off of the edge of the leather. I paid $350 for that purse at Macy's. What a ripoff!

Use some common sense to send the message that you will only pay what an item is really worth at fair market value that includes the materials and labor. Don't keep lettin yourself get ripped off. Buy only what you need and will wear.

And Hermes silk scarves are made in Korea, RosieRetro. My sister-in-law and her husband were there maybe 20 years ago and she bought 12 Hermes scarves in THE most popular pattern of the time. They cost $2 each (after all, they are pure silk) and she sent them home as gifts. Each scarf came folded up in a cardboard "envelope." That particular scarf design was a featured item at Field's (long before Macy's take-over) for $265!!!! All they did was take it out of the original cardboard "envelope" and slap an outrageous price tag on it!! BTW - I never did like the scarf design (reminded me of sadomachistic Christmas ornamants - LOL) and it's been sitting in a drawer, in it's original "envelope" all these yearsl. Now, however, I gave it to my new kitty to play with because I know kitties like scarves (she loves it!). So, is my kitty playing with a $2 scarf or a $265 scarf? Matter of opinion, I guess.

The last time I saw women like the ones in those drawings was in that horrible SciFi film Battlefield Earth, starring John Revolta.
