Dennis Seidenberg fires off a long-range goal for the Boston Bruins.

BOSTON -- Dennis Seidenberg scored the tiebreaking goal on a slap shot from center ice in the third period, rallying the Boston Bruins to a 4-3 win over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night.

Brad Marchand and Zdeno Chara had power-play goals and Chara also had an assist for the Bruins, who fell behind 3-1 while being dominated in the second period.

Milan Lucic's goal with 45 seconds left in the second got the Bruins within one and Marchand's power-play goal 2:20 into the third tied it.

Seidenberg put Boston ahead with 12:51 remaining as he stepped into a low shot just after crossing the red line and the puck whistled untouched between Craig Anderson's blocker and the post.

Tim Thomas made 30 saves for Boston, which allowed 10 goals in its last two games heading into the All-Star break. Thomas settled down after the Senators scored three straight for a 3-1 lead.

Anderson finished with 26 saves. He couldn't control a rebound and Marchand whacked at it until it went in for the tying goal, then was stunned by Seidenberg's blast from the Bruins' logo a few minutes later.

The Senators have lost four straight – all on the road after setting a franchise record with a point in 11 straight road games.

The Senators controlled the second period, playing like they were on a power play for most of it even though they never had a man advantage. Ottawa outshot Boston 13-5 in the period and got goals from Kyle Turris and Erik Karlsson to take a 3-1 lead.

Turris fired an unscreened shot past Thomas with 12:17 left in the second for a 2-1 lead. Karlsson put Ottawa up by two with a wrist shot from the left circle that also got past Thomas.

Boston finally broke Ottawa's grip on the period in the final minute and Lucic took advantage on a shot from the slot that got Boston within 3-2 with 45 seconds left.

Ottawa got a late goal when Colin Greening one-timed a pass from Milan Michalek in the slot. Michalek got the puck after Filip Kuba's blast from the point hit Thomas hard in the left pad and the rebound bounced right to Michalek at the right circle.

Boston had taken a 1-0 lead on Chara's slap shot from the point on a power play, his first goal in 17 games – not counting his goal Sunday in the All-Star Game while leading Team Chara to victory.

Notes: The Senators did not have a power play in the game. ... Ottawa, which hosted the All-Star Game over the weekend, will play its first home game since Jan. 16 on Friday against the Islanders. ... Boston F Nathan Horton missed his second straight game with a mild concussion. ... Boston D Andrew Ference sat out the final game of a three-game suspension for a hit on the Rangers' Ryan McDonagh on Jan. 21. ...

Did you see that puck float upwards? spooky...like a fastball riser. Didn't help that it went 7 hole off his blocker arm.

The puck did not go in "untouched." It was in the air, and appears that it would have gone outside the post had the goalie not tipped it in himself. It appears to have hit his stick or blocker and took an odd angle into the goal.

I'm sure Brendan Shanahan will suspend Seidenberg for scoring.

That's the only way they can stop the Bruins from a repeat. Or maybe they'll just make them play without sticks or skates. :)

LOL My boyfriend is a Habs fan....he didn't find the 5 game suspension joke as funny as we did. ;)

And your boy Chara was great this weekend. Loved the hugging it out with Tyler.

the puck was NOT "untouched." It was deflected by the goalie.

The worst part is that it looked like if the goalie had left it alone it would not have gone in, but it ricocheted off his leg and then went in.

Actually, I think that is the BEST part...for a GWG too.

What a knuckleball......Sweet!

Poor Anderson. Seidenberg is just dumping it in so the Bruins can make a line change and it ends up going in. No one expected that to go in.

This one falls on the goalie(Anderson). Over the past few years there have been plenty of odd plays at TD Gardens(weird bounces off the boards, pucks changing direction on the ice, etc.) A goalie has to be alert at all times(even on seemingly harmless shots\plays)...

And leave with their tails between their legs and a loss.

Tell me about it! As long as it is a W, I will take it any way we can get it.

Sucks to be that goalie..... That was a strange play, the puck catches the ice strangely and rises up like it was tipped
04:30 AM on 02/01/2012
Yes it doesn't look that easy to stop on reply. It short hopped the goalie good with lot of movement at the last second.

It looked to me like a inadvertent tip by the defense man.
