Oliver Wahlstrom Lacrosse Goal: Hockey Prodigy Scores Amazing Goal In Boston (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/ 1/2012 8:29 am Updated: 02/ 1/2012 8:29 am

Oliver Wahlstrom really knows how to put on a show. Two years after becoming an internet sensation with a ridiculous spin-o-rama goal at TD Bank as a 9-year-old, the hockey prodigy pulled off another amazing goal.. and it seems like he would be pretty good at lacrosse too. Competing in the finals of the 2012 Mini 1-on-1 boys 10-and-under bracket on Tuesday night -- in between periods of Boston's game against Ottawa -- Wahlstrom decided to show off some skills once he realized his Junior Pirates already had a 2-0 lead. After he crossed the blue line, Wahlstrom dragged the puck through his legs and lifted it onto the blade of his stick. Then he twirled it around lacrosse-style all the way to the goal, faked one way and sent the puck past the netminder's right shoulder and into the net. "YouTube here we come," said one of the announcers. Watch the goal above and then scroll down to check out his spin-o-rama goal from two years ago.

Girly nonsense. Hope this never comes to real man's league.

Think. It really doesn't hurt that much.

It was banned several years ago when Mike Green, then playing for Michigan, scored a goal from behind the net by picking the puck up on his stick and flipping it over the shoulder of the goalie from behind. It was a beautiful goal but since every pro player can pick up a puck like that, they banned it.

That was Mike Legg for the University of Michigan, not Mike Green, and that was in 1996. Also, this is not specifically banned by rule. The rule states that you cannot play the puck with your stick above your shoulder, so a goal like this would not count in an NHL game. But there is no rule specifically banning this action.

Might as well pick it up with your hand and just throw it in.

Sweet, bro! You perfected a shot that only works in specific situations (i.e. a shootout) when you're one on one with a goalie. You MUST be a prodigy.

Any decent Irish hurley player could do the same thing.

...cute trick - tho not new; more typical of a pond-hockey lark than a game at the rink.
04:37 PM on 02/01/2012
How many of these are we going to have to see before they stop calling it amazing? I've played ice hockey many years now, and this is one of those "trick" moves that every kid practices in his spare time growing up. It's not all that novel anymore.

Yet they got your "clicK".....and mine.....which means it worked....again.

Back off, man. I'm a scientist.

Stop calling it lacrosse when it is clearly ice hockey. Jesus!

As a side note, we need more Gretzkys in the game than Ovechkins. Knowledge of how a play works out is much more important than trick stuff. The trick stuff may work in a shootout, but you have to score real goals before you even get there (unless a scoreless game of course).

On a side, side note. Gretzky credits having played Lacrosse to helping him be a better hockey player.

...a Gretzky, like a Shakespeare, is a rarity. Tho your comment is spot on.

A lot of high school hockey players also play lacrosse....very similar in eye hand coordination and stick handling.
02:58 PM on 02/01/2012
That is technically high sticking. No Goal!

They're good eatin', but you need a lot of 'em
04:18 PM on 02/01/2012
You may be right, but it sure is a nifty move.

It's legal in a shootout.

Brilliant.

if he did that at a higher level, he would get SMASHED for showboating.
02:54 PM on 02/01/2012
That was my first thought, too. If I were the goalie I would have said forget about the puck, and just crushed him.

For all the "frequent fliers" on here claiming these goals are "illegal," calm the eff down. He was showing off BETWEEN periods. That's like calling Blake Griffin's dunk in last year's Slam Dunk Contest "illegal" because he dunked over a car.
