Ryan Potocnik Scores Game-Winning Basket For Wrong Team In High School Basketball Game (VIDEO)

Ryan Potocnik
Ryan Potocnik had one of the biggest brain lapses we've ever seen.

How does this even happen?

With his team leading by one point in the closing moments of a high school basketball tournament in Norcross, Ga., Ryan Potocnik took an inbounds pass and inexplicably scored on the basket that his team was defending.

It would be unfair to call this a Bill Buckner-like mistake as Buckner never picked up the ball and threw it over the Green Monster.

Potocnik, at first unaware of his error, lifted his arms in triumph after scoring before realizing he had just made amongst the most boneheaded plays we've ever seen resulting in his team ultimately losing the game 60-57

Interestingly, Potocnik is no bench player, but rather was an experienced senior averaging 11 points and eight rebounds per game as the team's main post presence.

There's probably a lesson to had from this... but we're not sure what exactly.

In all my basketball watching I have NEVER seen that. You actually never see it(until now) so you forget it's actually possible. Basketball's version of an "own goal"

Once again The Huffington Post has taken a miserable ordeal, and blew it outta proportion. The stories are getting completely one sided and less important.

He's a high school kid, not a pro. Sometimes mistakes are made in the heat of a hard-fought game. Just move on and do better the rest of the season, as I'm sure he will.

Pull this story, you obnoxious jerks. This is a High School kid you are making fun of. Huffington Post is fast becoming the National Enquirer of the internet. Slime.

"There's probably a lesson to had from this... but we're not sure what exactly. " or

You make it sound like it's a life threarening mistake, it's a kids basketball game.
You have to give the kid credit for his effort. Make sure you are perfect before you
criticize someone else.

Basketball is a transition game, up & down, up & down the court. Timeout here, T/O there. Frenzied fans screaming & yelling over what your coach is trying to relay to you during that moment of strategy. It's obvious during this time the kid's brain didn't catch up with the action/excitement on the court & he thought he'd caught a break with a wide open bucket. I won't say it's not something he shouldn't be embarrassed over but a temporary lapse on a basketball court is probably the most excused in sports. It's not like you've got ten other guys lining up on the line of scrimmage beside you pointing the way..
