Sarah Lawrence College. If that isn't a Hippie fortress then I don't know what is.

That Hippie sign looks exactly like a sign on the door of a house in the tiny Northern California town of Dunsmuir.

So, basically, schools which have you fork over 50k per year in exchange for a neat sign and choice seats at the nearby "Occupy" protest?

Cool.

You could make up this entire list from schools near the Connecticut River Valley.

I'll make the same comment I made the last time this exact, same list appeared on HP:

Why are Goddard College and Hampshire College not included?

Gee, it would have been nice if the geographical locations of these schools were mentioned. I only knew about half of them and I am pretty good with geography, although not so good with trivia. Why do so many list makers hate geography?

This is so comical. My son attends New College. He doesn't wear Birks (I do). He doesn't smoke ANYTHING, clove or otherwise. He's a carnivore. Okay, he may have hugged a tree or two during his lifetime. He's actually a very straight-laced fellow. Okay, it is true. He may attend classes barefoot on some days. New College is incredibly intense academically beyond that students make their own way - just like in the "real" world. So, "hippie" perhaps not, but definitely liberal and challenging.

Don't confuse style with function.

I graduated from New College in `04 and last year pulled down 6 figures working for a world renowned technology company. Some of the other Alumni I keep in touch with are working on cures for Aids and Alcoholism, studying global warming or starting their careers as lawyers and doctors. I still wear my sandals and from time to time enjoy a clove but I also support local sustainable organic farms, occupy wall-street and other liberal causes , I even served on the board of a bio-diesel coop.

New College may cater "Hippies" but it also provides a world class education and trains it's students to be high functioning members of society.

We're here, we're productive, get used to it!

When I went to college, most hippies didn't actually attend classes...they just hung around campus begging and generally cluttering the place. Hey, sounds like OWS!

I have to say, I'm pretty shocked Berkeley is not on this list. I know it's the not quite as Free Speech Movement-esque as it was in the 60's but alot of Berkeley kids do have hippie-like tendencies.

Oh you haven't been to Berkeley in a while.... It's gone corporate...decades ago..

Yeah, Bardies don't do well around individuals who do not fawn over the pseudo intellectuals that the school tends to produce. Nothing like lamenting Capitalism and Americanization of the world while driving a brand new Beamer and avoiding any media which contains empirical data.

"Didn't go," or is it more like you didn't get accepted? As I recall, all of them require at least a rudimentary command of English.
