'Hunger Games' Trailer: Katniss Everdeen, The Girl Who Was On Fire, Enters The Capitol

First Posted: 02/ 2/2012 1:20 pm Updated: 02/ 3/2012 7:51 am

Just 50 days remain until "The Hunger Games" explodes into theaters, and in honor of that special occasion, Lionsgate has unveiled a brand new trailer for highly anticipated YA adaptation. The better news? Unlike the new teasers this week for "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "The Dictator," this one contains a whole lot of new footage.

In the minute-long spot, fans get a better look at the announcement ceremony featuring Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks), Primrose Everdeen (Willow Shields) and her big sis hero, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence). Also! A better look at the fearsome Capitol, a bit of action from inside the Hunger Games arena, and some major Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) self-reflection. Plus! A half-second shot of Katniss running in a burning forest.

All in all, a good day for "Hunger Games" fans. If you want to enter to win tickets to the Los Angeles premiere of the big film, click here.

"The Hunger Games" is set to hit theaters March 23.

I really liked the book, It had the great novel elements of the Giver and a basic sense of action I could really get into. It shouldnt be to hard to translate onto the big screen, so I might watch it. I mean according to the trailer they already have all the themes right.

Anyone else notice that she wasn't actually on fire? I thought that was kind of the whole point of the outfit and the quote.

That scene is supposed to be in the movie. I'm glad they didn't spoil it in the trailer.

Looking forward to this movie. I think HG resonates with older readers/viewers as well as younger ones because although the main characters are adolescents, it's not a story that dismisses young people as flighty or unintelligent. It's clear from the start the protagonists are not merely wrestling with what date to take to the prom -- like Harry Potter et al, it's far more substantial than a teen book/movie focused on gossip, chemistry class, and how to get laid (sorry if that's what you're looking for!). These kids live a difficult reality and bear the weight of life-altering decisions throughout the book/film, and folks of any age can certainly relate to Katniss' feelings of love and protectiveness for her family.

Seriously? Those nonsensical 10 words sans punctuation represent your best contribution to the thread?

Gee, no, vidalady, I thought this all actually happened last week in Nebraska. Sure am glad you pointed out the error of my ways.

My giving thought to the way in which aspects of the story parallel the pain some have encountered in real life doesn't mean I've lost my hold on reality.

I have no idea why, because I really enjoyed the books, but I have absolutely no desire to see this movie.

clip doesn't look as bad as i expected. i might actually watch it in spite of the mis casting of the heroin.

Who do you think should have played Katniss? (I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just curious who you would choose). =)

i don't know every actress on the planet but first of all i'd have chosen someone more like the book describes rather than the current '' hot babe'' .
district 12 is starving and even though she hunts she's still on the malnourished side. that alone irks me.

Tried twice to read the book. Major yawn. Guess I'll invest 2 hours in the movie.

Really? I read all three in record time. couldn't put it down.

My 19 year old niece has been harping on me to read these books. In fact, [glances to the bookshelf] I can pick it up at anytime.

The premise sounds interesting -- Unlike the Twilight novels she had previously suggested I read.

my daughter loves them and so do i. for ya fiction they're quite mature.

i held out forever too, but i recently read the first one and really liked it. Have you ever read The Giver? It sort of reminds me of that, but for kids that are a little older.

My two sons are reading this, so I've been reading it too. Within a few pages I was thinking of The Giver. I've finished the first two HG books. Depressing, but still somehow enjoyable due to the slightest hint of hope. And the boys and I have had lots of interesting talks about how we would cope in a controlled society such as that in HG.

Still excited but I can already tell one thing they changed!

You mean that fact that they've taken out an entire character? :( Still can't wait, but now I'm wondering where they're gonna say she GOT the pin. It's not going to quite hold the value for me honestly.

I know... after watching the trailer I checked IMDB and Madge is not listed among the characters cast. I do think Lenny Kravitz as Cinna should be pretty cool. Hope he can act as well as he sings.

I love it. I'm 42, and feel the exact same way - almost a little giddy, even. So glad I am not the only quadragenarian who is this excited for these movies.

As one who has never read the books, this looks outright terrible to me...all the way dow to the tacky "Fifth Element" production design.

It's just an Americanized rehash of Battle Royale.
05:16 PM on 02/02/2012
Which is like claiming Battle Royal is a rip off of The Long Walk or The Running Man.
Which is like claiming the The Long Walk is a rip off of Lord of the Flies and THe Lottery.
Which is like claiming......

The woman who wrote the Hunger Games did not read Battle Royale before writing her story.. she wrote Clifford the Big Red Dog for a living.

As one who has never read the books, you are not as likely to be drawn to it. It's nice (for those of us who have read them) to see some of the things the author described come to life on-screen.

I'm really excited about this movie. Twilight has disappointed me so much and I'm STILL going through Harry Potter withdrawal. I need another teenage series that I'm "too old to like but I'm addicted anyway" obsession and this is going to be the one!

If you're looking for a "teenage series" to really get into, I'd recommend "The Hardy Boys Mysteries," featuring Sean Cassidy and Parker Stevenson. Top-notch!

Will do! I'll look into it. Thanks :)
