Julianne Moore Fights Air Pollution With The Moms Clean Air Force

Julianne Moore And Moms Vs. Air Pollution

Julianne Moore is recruiting an army of moms to help everyone breathe easier. "It's time for polluters to stop bullying us. It's time for moms to roar," declares actress and mom of two Julianne Moore in this video, made to promote the Moms Clean Air Force (MCAF).

The video is a response to coal industry lobbyists who are seeking to overturn the 1970 Clean Air Act and new mercury and air toxics standards signed this past December. Air pollution can trigger asthma attacks in young children while mercury damages babies' brains, Moore says.

Moore says the lobbyists are like kids who made her feel bad when she was a young girl in school. She has already spoken out against this kind of bullying in her children's books "Freckleface Strawberry" and is asking mothers to stand up for themselves and their kids, just like Freckleface does in these stories.

"Freckleface feels bullied when she plays dodgeball, but she learns to stand up for herself. She pretends to be a monster and roars."

MCAF's co-founder Dominique Browning approached Moore last summer to request her involvement in discussing clean air regulation, knowing Moore was a "protective mom." Moore immediately responded. "I love my kids with all my heart and the last thing I want to worry about is the air they breathe."
