All hail the Queen!

Today countries all over the world are celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, a holiday which marks 60 years since Her Majesty ascended the throne.

Giant cakes have been made, ice sculptures have been carved and there's even talk of a Spice Girls reunion, all designed to honor the British Monarch.

Said Queen Elizabeth II in a statement this morning:

"In this special year, as I dedicate myself anew to your service, I hope that we will all be reminded of the power of togetherness and the convening strength of family, friendship and good neighbourliness.

I hope also that this jubilee year will be a time to give thanks for the great advances that have been made since 1952 and to look forward to the future with clear head and warm heart as we join together in our celebrations."

One of the great advances made since 1952? The queen's style. So in lieu of an ice sculpture, concert or cake, we wish to recognize the Queen's great contribution to the world of style. Let's take a look back and honor the Queen's most memorable outfits, from her many hats to the chic leather handbags.

Long live the Queen and her fashion sense!

The Queen is a remarkable woman. A beautiful woman with a wonderful smile, and a great common sense in fashion . Very simple in her designs, and simply elegant in her royal gowns. Simplicity in clothes never goes out of style. She isn't shy about trying something different either.
A beautiful and elegant lady. The Queen...God bless her.

Funny, I guess I hadn't noticed that she's not dyeing her hair any more. It's quite flattering on her.

I think she was and still is a very lovely woman. The Queen has always behaved in a very dignified manner and I wish her continued good health. Though I don't care for monarchies, she is very deserving of the respect given to her.

She's lovely. The middle period is a little dated but now she seems stylish but age appropriate. Plus, I think William and Kate and Harry did something to revive her spirit somehow. It shows.

I think that she looks really pretty in some of these photos and I like some of the outfits.

Her former nanny and "dresser" retired (and/or died) and now she has younger people dressing her - well, her chief dresser and dressmaker is about 58, and she also often wears the designs of Stuart Parvin who may be 40. They do classics, but tailored to her within an inch of their lives, and make sure there are stylish details, lovely colors, fine fabrics. Plus her hats are a similar, jaunty shape that looks very good on her.

What dies the Queen do with her clothes once she tires of them?
She turns them back into curtains. A quote from Paul Lynde.

Actually - her dresser can have any she likes - then the labels are ripped out so they can't be identified as from the Queen - and given to charity

May she reign for a great while longer with good health on her side. She's amazing for her age, and has performed her role as Queen with great dignity. I have seen her twice and her complexion is just amazing as was Princess Margaret's - must be the English air! Good luck Your Majesty.

Personally, I think that picture of her from 1979 was not very flattering, she definitely was showing her wrinkles... Don't know that she cared.....woman of her times....but it still burns that she tried to dip into the poverty fuel fund and the thing about the 100 million dollar yacht....

I think that they "got" the message re their vast wealth, and so the Britannia is no more. Does anyone know who bought the yacht and where she sails now? I would like to see her with a different - more modern - hairdo but her smile is still marvelous. Wouldn't it be wonderful to go to a tea party at Buckingham Palace??

I can see Prince Charles' resemblance to her in her younger pictures. Never really noticed it before.

My first thought in looking at the first photo was that her grandson, Harry, has her eyes.

I love her with her sassy hats and her pocket book on her arm.

As a young and middle aged woman, Elizabeth was not considered to be attractive but now I think she looks adorable.

How inexcusably condescending to call an 85-year old woman "adorable." Shame on you.

I thought for most of her life she was quite attractive - and certainly agree that now she looks "adorable". Anyone who requires assistance with that can look it up.

She has aged well and she got a bit stylish in the last few years. Still wish I could change her hair.

Most of the things she was wearing when she was younger are really hidious. The colours are just so yuk.(couldn't think of anything else sorry) After Diana became part of the family there was actually some fashion sense there. The Queen is a very nice looking lady when she smiles. It is just to bad all this money will be wasted on this. There are so many other good uses for it. Canada we do not need a Queen.(don't go jumping all over me for my opinion)I'm sure others feel the same way!
