Roseanne Barr 2012 Green Party

WASHINGTON — Roseanne Barr said Thursday she's running for the Green Party's presidential nomination – and it's no joke.

The actress-comedian said in a statement that she's a longtime supporter of the party and looks forward to working with people who share her values. She said the two major parties aren't serving the American people.

"The Democrats and Republicans have proven that they are servants -- bought and paid for by the 1 percent -- who are not doing what's in the best interest of the American people," Barr said.

Occupy Wall Street protesters popularized the "We are the 99 percent" slogan in their fight against economic disparity and perceived corporate greed.

Barr has submitted paperwork to the Green Party for her candidacy. The party's presidential nominee will be selected at a convention in Baltimore in July.

Barr said she has been fighting for working-class families and women for decades.

"I will barnstorm American living rooms," she said in a candidate questionnaire submitted to the Green Party. "Mainstream media will be unable to ignore me, but more importantly they will be unable to overlook the needs of average Americans in the run-up to the 2012 election."

Barr's hit TV sitcom "Roseanne" aired from 1988 to 1997 and earned her an Emmy and a Golden Globe. She played a wise-cracking mom in the comedy about a blue-collar family. Barr has a 46-acre macadamia nut farm in Hawaii.

She's got the right idea, but if she isn't smart to realize that Obama's been organizing this entire time, then I don't think I want her as a President.

Instead, she should try to help him. She recognizes the problem, so help him steer everyone's attention towards it. He's already infiltrated the power structure and is giving them all the rope they need to hang themselves.

I think it's funny how everyone here is already passing Rosanne off without listening to her points, what she's going to try to do, and where she stands on important topics. I'd be willing to listen to Rosanne. Just because she is a comedian doesn't mean she isn't smart. Most comedians are very smart. Rosanne is a very intelligent person, just because she was an actress on a comedy doesn't mean she can't run a country.

Not to worry. Once she signed on with the Green party, her fate was doomed. They never had a candidate win.

If that it doesn't work put, she can still keep her foot in politics...become one of Romney's wives.

The Green Party has had hundreds of candidates for office win election, just not a presidential or congressional candidate. It doesn't help that most states have onerous ballot access laws to hurdle over, or that most debates don't allow candidates to participate if they aren't the Dem or Rep darlings. Does any of this make sense?
I welcome Roseanne Barr's voice in the electoral process.
We had a president who once co-starred opposite a monkey, afterall!

Bought, and paid for by corrupt politicians willing to hood-wink anyone not paying attention.

"Fahrenkopf said that the commission was not likely to include third-party candidates in debates, and Kirk said he personally believed they should be excluded from the debates."

Yep, that's one heck of a democracy we have isn't it? If you can't, or won't buy your way in, your idea's won't be heard or seen in a "debate".

HELL F-ING NO, I WOULDN'T VOTE FOR HER! I WOULDN'T GIVE HER AIR IF I HAD HER IN A JUG! SHE BLOCKED ME ON TWITTER JUST BECAUSE I WAS TWEETING WITH HER BOYFRIEND! WHAT A BITCH!

I take back what I said. Barr seems to be just trying to bring attention to Jill Stein. Sorry, and bless you Roseanne Barr!

She understands one thing: if you want to be a Green, you have to look like you haven't washed your hair in three weeks.
12:20 AM on 02/07/2012
I'm not sure what your point is but I'm a Green who washes her hair almost every single day. Are you implying too that those who are shaven or bald can't be Greens?
05:12 PM on 02/03/2012
She is once again making a mockery of serious issues. Jill Stein is a physician with the best ideas for this country. Shame on Barr for endangering real progress. At least if Stein got into the debates she could wake people up to real issues.

I listen to Jill Stein when the CPD feels the need to quit blocking third parties from accessing the "debates". Look into who runs the CPD. (1 R and 1D). Sounds fair doesn't it?

I am on the ballot in the nation's first Green Party presidential preference primary in Arizona on Feburary 28. Since Roseanne Barr is not on the ballot, I am running as Roseanne's stand-in and I'm asking the Arizona Green Party to attribute any votes I get to Roseanne Barr and be apportioned to Roseanne when the Arizona delegation to the national Green Party presidential nominating convention meets in Baltimore this summer. Go Roseanne!

And here we thought her comedy career was over. Rosanne Barr for ANY public office makes as much sense as electing my cat. And I think my cat is the smarter of the two!

couldn't be worse than the alternatives.

Well between Reagan and Bonzo, we certainly know who was the smarter of the two!

Whoa-that isn't going to sit well with the party faithful, but no truer statement has
ever been made by any "candidate". Now if only the electorate would remove the
blinders real change could be attained.

At this point, i'm willing to give Rosie a shot. The two parties are owned and will continue to be, don't be snowed by the bones they throw at us. Barr in 2012 as far as I'm concerned.

I respect Ms. Barr's activism but this is why I don't take the Green Party seriously.
12:27 AM on 02/07/2012
Why can't Ms. Barr be a concerned citizen, and activist, and now a political candidate? Her comedy was her job at one time but doesn't have to define her completely. Look at the guy who played Gopher on the Love Boat. Look at Ronald Reagan who once played against a chimpanzee. The fact that she is a public figure could play in her favor in terms of getting media attention but at heart she's a person like the rest of us and has concerns and opinions. I see no reason to scorn her or the party.

It is criminal that the Green Party is not included in televised debates. Corporate criminals are afraid.

Here is the reason you will not see the Greens, along with many other parties. It all comes down to complete corruption of our political system.

will she sing the national athem if she wins?

She reminds me of when Pat Paulsen from the Smothers Brothers used to "run for President" each time as a mock candidate. I take her as serious as that.
