Chicago Photography Center Opens 'I (Heart) Ink' Tattoo Art Exhibition (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Tattoos Celebrated In New Exhibit

On Friday, the Chicago Photography Center unveils their latest show: "I (Heart) Ink: A Photographic Exhibit of Tattoo Art."

Co-curated by Susan Aurinko and Warren Perlstein, the show features work by 14 mostly local photographers and showcases "an art form that deserves to be seen," as the show announcement reads.

"What I love about this show is that it gives a bigger view of tattoo art," Perlstein told The Huffington Post. "It's not just about beautiful women and scruffy guys with tats that is so prevalent in photography today, though we do have some of that too. I'm never sure if some of the photography I see of tattoo art isn't more about the models than about beautiful (ink) art and great photography."

The show previews Friday during a fundraiser reception for the center, beginning at 7 p.m. at 3301 N. Lincoln Ave. in Chicago. The event will include treats and refreshments from Rowdydow BBQ, Wishbone Restaurant, Metropolitan Brewery, Koval Distillery and Wyncroft Wineries, in addition to a silent auction and music. Windy City Harley will also be on hand for the festivities.

"I (Heart) Ink" officially opens Saturday at 7 p.m. and runs through Feb. 24. Preview some of the work that will be on display during the show below.
