'Grey's Anatomy' Alternate Reality Episode Takes Shot At Katherine Heigl's Character (VIDEO)

Former "Grey's Anatomy" (Thu., 9 p.m. EST on ABC) star Katherine Heigl has been hitting the talk-show circuit recently and has made no secret of her desire to return to the series. However, sources told EW that after her rancorous departure in 2010, she may never be welcomed back.

So, did Heigl's character Izzie make an appearance on last night's alternate reality episode, "If/Then?"

Kind of. It was all a dream as Meredith nodded off and experienced a different kind of life. One in which she was engaged to Alex.

Sitting in the hospital cafeteria she and the other doctors were gossiping about their "loner" co-worker Cristina and the fallout from her affair with Dr. Burke. Meredith had heard that Cristina was such a bunny-boiler that a scared Dr. Burke even had to leave the state.

And that's when Izzie came up. "I always say never mess with the crazy chicks," laughed Alex. "She's probably going to go full-on Izzie one day and shoot up the hospital!"

When Jackson asked who Izzie was, the claws really came out.

Appparently the alternate Izzie was nuts. Not only was she sleeping with her patient, but she went and stole a heart from the transplant list for him. Luckily Meredith caught her and had her fired.

The drama continues on "Grey's Anatomy" Thursday nights at 9 p.m. EST on ABC.

i think the greys anatomy episode last night the shoot they took AT KATHERINE WAS MEAN SHAME ON SHANDRA FOR THAT CRACK AT KATHERINE

I totally agree. She's always come off as the mouthy one who wasn't as Hollywood savvy as she could have been. On Anderson Cooper's show she recently admitted that she could have shut up more. But then GA comes with this? I'm not watching their show. I used to be an avid fan but I fell off when Meredith and McDream got "married".

It wasn't so much taking a shot as explaining why the character wasn't there. It was the same izzie story, fell in love with a patient, stole a heart, just a different ending.

I liked the episode. I always enjoy when they do something a little different. The season has been dam good so far.

The season has been quite compelling, but, yes, this was an awful episode!

It was a very weak episode, except towards the end where it suggested that people gravitate towards where they belong regardless the narrative. It was especially gratifying to see "Bailey" begin to emerge from "Mindy."

Also, something seemed different or off about either the lighting or cinematography - Meredith looked about 40 years old.

I'm SO glad she's not welcomed back! She had a lot of not nice things to say about the show, its creators, and writers. Good for Grey's, I'll continue to watch in this case:)

They never said Izzie shot up the hospital. Alex was saying that Cristina may one day shoot up the hospital and go "full-on Izzie" because "Izzie" meant "crazy." He didn't mean that was the same thing that Izzie the person did.
