Muslim Groups Plan Rally After NYPD Intel Report

NEW YORK -- Muslim groups and interfaith leaders are holding a rally in the wake of a report about New York Police Department intelligence. The rally is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday at Manhattan's Foley Square. It will be followed by a march to police headquarters. A secret police document shows that the NYPD recommended increasing surveillance of thousands of Muslims and their mosques based solely on their religion. The Associated Press obtained a copy of the May 2006 NYPD intelligence report on Iran. It says police should expand clandestine operations at Shiite mosques. Mayor Michael Bloomberg has said the NYPD never considers religion in its policing. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly has said police only go where investigative leads take them. ___ Online:

Surely you remember places like Salem? What tolerance do you speak of? Various groups, be they ethnic or religious have been persecuted throughout the last 230+ years. You should know your own history better.

If,and I'm assuming 'if'' you have come to this country then there must be something about our culture that you revere and to access this society with "both" feet planted in the soil,blood of our ancestors, then you must with all our errors and human frality assimilate or you don't belong and will continue to be an outsider. You want change in our system of government them become a citizen and along with that responsibility to change the wrongs,we and all persons, that this culture is guilty of commiting. Or go back to the crumbling society you escaped from.

If there is factual evidence to support that specific Muslims in New York are planning or committing acts of terrorism, then it is only responsibly for the NYPD to follow the due process of law and gain court orders to surveil or search the properties of those individuals.

To prejudicially surveil Muslims because they are Muslims is unjust and illegal. These people deserve better. Justice must be for all, not for some.

Yeah, some Muslims are real jerks and are criminals. When they break the law, they need to be prosecuted.

Let's assume that you're a white, Christian American man. I don't know if you are, but let's just be hypothetical. Let's also say that a white, Christian American man just committed a series of horrible murders. What would only make sense, based on your logic, is to go into your house, surveil you and eventually detain you for hours to interrogate you about all of the murders you've committed. Let's assume though, that you've not killed anyone.

Who cares? One white, Christian American has committed murder so clearly you are also a murderer.

That's prejudicial and that's what you're asking the NYPD to do. It's wrong, it's not in keeping with American civil liberties or jurisprudence. It needs to stop.

Except that the surveillance that was conducted is completely illegal. It also surfaced that 1,500 NYPD police officers were trained using a highly controversial and Islamophobic video, called "The Third Jihad". Mayor Bloomberg has received backlash and he has completely disavowed the video.

The use of mosques for would be terrorists to gather makes NYPD surveillance necessary. Second, why does Muslim community not openly come forward with the fact that in the middle east in dictator Muslim states that the mosque is the only place to speak political ideas and protest without concern of the armies of sad dam, mahmoud and other leaders. They continue to not want to address the problem in their own community.

NYPD report in all likelihood have concentrated their efforts at mosques because traditionally Muslim gathered at mosques as a place to discuss political ideas without fear of reprisal, therefore would be terrorists would find this a good place under the 1st ammendment to gather.
