Every week the numerous blogs covering the machinations of the Apple empire float tons of unconfirmed rumors, futuristic speculation and questionably-sourced reports on what the company might be unveiling in the near or distant future. Let's take a look back at what the Mac blogs were excited about during the week of January 29 - February 4. iPhone 5 Will Be Released In June, Analyst Promises!
1 of 6
Would Apple do something as dastardly as releasing the iPhone 5 just 8 months after outing the iPhone 4S?
An analyst at Daiwa Securities told Chinese-language paper the Commercial Times
that the next-generation iPhone will be released at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference in June.
Dedicated fan(boy)s will remember that Apple had traditionally released new iPhones in June until this year's unveiling of the 4S in October -- the first four iPhones were all launched in either June or July, with the iPhone 4S stomping on four years of tradition with its October release.
As for the details of the iPhone 5 (or, iPhone 6, as this is the 6th iPhone) -- no new details emerged this week. The next one could be the slimmer, lighter, bigger, thinner, happier, more productive iPhone we saw teased and hyped for months in 2011
; we've also heard plenty of whispers
that the next iPhone will finally have 4G LTE capabilities (makes sense, given the amount of money American carriers are pouring into their 4G networks). We also heard this week that the iPhone 5 could sport NFC
for mobile payments, in a possible partnership with Mastercard. Or it could be something completely different.
We haven't heard much about the design yet, but being that the thing is still at least 4 months away (probably!), it is probably not even in mass production yet (which is where all of those leaks and rumors come from in the first place).
Closer to its launch date? The iPad 3. (Probably!). It's been a little under a year since the iPad 2 went on sale in 2011, which means, naturally, that iPad 3 talk is heat-heat-heating up. This week's big rumor....
