Victoria Beckham For i-D: Designer Dishes Out Clothing Advice (PHOTO)

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 02/03/2012 9:17 am Updated: 02/03/2012 9:28 am

We'd hesitate before taking fashion advice from Victoria Beckham, if only because we'd find it hard to replicate. "Fill your closet with Christian Louboutins" or "You can't go wrong with a navy blue fascinator" aren't exactly the kind of tips we can follow.

But in the newest issue of i-D, for which Posh poses for the striking cover photo, the designer and former Spice Girl opens up about an interesting fashion revelation: she's less comfortable in those tight, trendy dresses than you'd think.

"When I started it was all about the corset dress. That's what people associated me with, and possibly if I'm honest a sign of my own insecurities as well. But the older I get and the more comfortable I am in my own skin, the more I realise that to look great and feel great I haven't always got to wear something tight."

Only Victoria Beckham would channel her insecurities into wearing MORE tight clothes, right?

And though Beckham arguably could look good in a paper bag, she claims that she spends a lot of time pondering what flatters her figure the most.

"I've stood on many a red carpet and been photographed from every angle, so I know how important it is for a dress to be flattering."

"I don’t follow fashion and I don’t follow trends, I just follow my instincts and think, what do I want to wear? What am I feeling for next season?"

Sounds good to us! Although we suspect Posh follows fashion more than she lets on.

Check out the cover photo below, and see even more sexy shots of VB over at i-D.

I really like her based on what I've seen/read. She seems like a great mom and her clothes are fabulous.

I find it humorous that she is giving fashion advice...... I can hear it now.... "You MUST be nearly skeletal and above all else never, never, never appear to enjoy ANYTHING!"

This is one of the better photos I've seen of her because she's kinda smiling.

I miss Geri Haliwell. She was the hottest of the Spice Girls. Victoria was square in the middle at number three.

Geri was cute. But I always thought Posh was the hottest.

As it turns out, she was also the most talented.

(yeah, I realize this just opinion -- just sharing mine)

She's a good designer but couldn't sing to save her life.

Geri had (has?) a great body. Posh is too skinny for my taste. I like a woman with some meat on her bones.

Her face looks like a Guy Fawkes mask.

Thanks for the advice. My size zero clothes don't need to be so tight.
No talent woman.

So you know them personally, do you?

So why does she feel the need to "pose"? That's not normal.

She's a hell of a designer, and a beautiful and sexy woman. Becks is a lucky guy, that's for sure.

And those are great shots of her at i-D.

I must confess that this woman has a great natural talent for design....
I have seen some of her latest collections and I am impressed by her uniqueness and personal signature..... She doesn't copy anybody.. She doesn't have to... Her designs are fresh, elegant and flattering to the woman's body.... And her trademark zipper on the back of her dresses is one of the best fashion coups I have seen in years.....
Good job Mrs. Beckham....!!!!
I hope you and your family stay in the United States for many more years...
We need your talent here....!!!!

Thank god you were referring to Victoria in tight dresses and not David. We've seen waaaay too much of him lately and that would be the last straw.

She's very self-conscious of her teeth, and that's why she doesn't smile.

Oh please...she has plenty of money to get them fixed, torn out and replaced. I don't feel sorry for her. She needs to smile more.

I like her and her clothing line is actually chic and fashionable. I've seen her in and around LA and when fans recognize her she's been accommodating...at least the few times I've seen her. The one I absolutely want no part of is Jennifer Lopez. Saw her and her "entourage" at a restaurant, a boutique and a hotel and I can tell you, her reputation for being a "B" is well deserved.

I give her a lot of credit in that unlike most celebrities who do a fashion line, Victoria actually does the work. She really does the designs herself. And she's pretty good, but IMHO, her style needs to be a little more relaxed, a little easier, a little more flow. But she has my respect for her hands on involvement and doing the real work.
