What Time Is The Super Bowl?: 2012's Game Start Time And More You Need To Know About It

What Time Is The Super Bowl 2012

First Posted: 02/ 4/2012 1:17 am Updated: 02/ 6/2012 12:38 am

For starters, it's two words, not one. "Superbowl" is an incorrect spelling.

The New York Giants will collide with the New England Patriots in Indianapolis for the 46th Super Bowl starting at 6:30 PM ET on February 5, 2012. That doesn't mean that kickoff will happen exactly at that time though, as a few minutes of leeway must be given for things like the coin-flip, the national anthem, and the flyover (we recommend DVR just in case you forget).

The game, which takes place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, will be broadcast exclusively on NBC (click here to find your local station).

However, this year the game can also be seen streaming live online, which may come as consolation to football fans abroad. For the first time ever, the NFL will be making the Super Bowl available online (for computer users) and on mobile devices. This comes in the wake of "Operation Fake Sweep," a piracy raid by federal authorities against websites suspected of illegally streaming sporting events. 300 websites were seized in the days leading up to the big game.

To view the (legal) live stream on Sunday, click here.

Those with a slower connection that can't handle the stream can still get up-to-the-minute information on ESPN's Super Bowl Central. The site will feature a live play-by-play Gamecast on Sunday in addition to reporting stats throughout the game.

And, of course, you can keep up with our own coverage on HuffPost Sports.

It's been a battle for both teams to get to this point, as each team took down formidable opponents in the conference championships. New York started its playoff run by defeating the Atlanta Falcons, then stunning the 1-loss Green Bay Packers against the odds, only to follow it up with a win against 13-3 San Francisco in the NFC Championship. The Patriots, who swiftly ended Tim Tebow's run in divisional playoffs, bested the Baltimore Ravens 23-20 in the AFC Championship.

The Patriots' dominant season has made them decidedly the favorites to win on Sunday. According to the AP, the Glantz-Culver line has favored the Patriots to win by 3.5 points, with an over/under of 55.5 points.

As always, it's more than just a game. The Bridgestone Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show will feature a performance by Madonna, imagined by Cirque du Soleil and Jamie King. If that's not your thing, there are always the commercials.

Sunday's matchup will be a rematch of Super Bowl 42, a game Giants fans will tout for eternity. Patriots fans still have nightmares. In the 2008 contest, New York bested New England with an incredible last-minute drive putting themselves ahead 17-14. That drive included the now famous "helmet catch" made by David Tyree off a pass from Eli Manning.

We can tell you what time the game will start, but we have no idea when something amazing like that will happen. You'll have to tune in to see for yourself.

No matter what happens, everyone on the field is really a winner. At least when it comes to money. According to the Nation Football Post, winning players automatically get $88,000 while losing players get $44,000. Even if you don't enjoy the game, there's always the food. Wings are a staple of gameday chow come and in all shapes and sizes. But Nachos also hold a special place in the hearts of many football fans. The decision of which is better is almost as controversial as the game itself, as the HuffPost Kitchen Daily Game Day Snacks Bracket Challenge has shown us.

UPDATE: It appears some international IPs were blocked from watching the game live online, though commercials were broadcast.

Tom Brady's safety in the opening minutes determined that he would have to score a touchdown, instead of a field goal, in the final minute for New England to win the Super Bowl. That is huge. Congrats to the Giants for a great win.

This years super bowl will go down as the super bowl with 2 winners and 1 big loser. The 2 winners that I am referring to are of course the New York Giants and the #2 winner I am giving to the host city of Indianapolis. Man did they put on a show for the fans, all week they just kept pulling this or that entertainment into the mix. I have heard that the folks from out east were so impressed with our Hoosier Hospitality that they were asking volunteers how much they were getting paid, when the lady said nothing she had volunteered just so she could be part of it all. The New Yorker ask another volunteer and she told the lady basically the same story. The lady from New York was so impressed she gave the 2 volunteers $100.00 dollars a piece and invited them to her luxury suite for the game. The big loser ( or should I say losers ) were the advertisers who payed mucho dinero for the time slots to show us a bunch of crap.It was like Brady was making the calls for them, we all know how bad the commercials were and as the game came to a finish, I toasted Mr. Bradey and said maybe next year Tom, but I doo haveubt it. And oh yea Tom, how about that young Manning Boy, he seems to have a little potential.

It's sad that the kind of enthusiasm people have for sports and the Super Bowl does not compare to the kinds of joy or sorrow seen for the sufferings around the world.

and they acted like Elvis came back from the dead.I am not a foot ball fan.

Wait...what? They didn't pay attention to your kid? How rude. You should've called Tim Tebow. Is your child okay now?

Isn't it just wonderful we have sent our Superbowl greeting cards out early this year and decorated our Superbowl tree in the living room in anticipation of this great event. Write your congressman to make this a national holiday.
