I viewed the "Ice Ages" films during the Superbowl. I like football, but I am bored by the constant nattering of the hired guns on the broadcast. Besides, I love the "Ice Ages" squirrel and the acorn!

Watching other people engage in sports is like watching other people engage in sex; it generates a lot of excitement without generating a lot of satisfaction.

I loathe the Superbowl—the hype, the artificial event (!!!) of a TV-commercial delivery system, and most of all I hate how the news gets away with using chatter about this game as a stand-in, night after night, for the news. One local newsguy here actually called last Monday the beginning of Superbowl Week. Hideous. And usually after a Patriots Superbowl, win or lose, there are riots and mayhem in the streets of Boston. Anything is better to watch than this tedious football game.

This is article is heresy!!!! The Super Bowl is America's most religious Holiday. We worship war and violence and football is bottom line a sports metaphor for war. We also worship money and commerce so the SuperBowl ads are very important was well. We also worship celebrities so the halftime show now such a big deal. Super Bowl Sunday is America's holiest day. Sooner or later we will be exchanging gifts or baskets full of chocolate footballs for the children. It is only a matter of time.

Puppy Bowl! I've been looking forward to it. And, as ashamed as I am to admit it, I'll probably be hitting up Shameless as well. Until then I'll keep my TV on Syfy for the Being Human marathon...though I might not be paying that much attention.

TCM is breaking out the top-shelf merchandise today, including an Errol Flynn double feature: The Sea Hawk and Robin Hood, followed by two of the great Alec Guinness-Ealing comedies, The Lavender Hill Mob and The Ladykillers.
