This doc is off on many things. Statins destroy the body!!!

Processsed foods, GMO's and high fructose corn syrup cause inflamation which makes one sick. Stess is also a factor in illness. Drugs are not the answer.

A lifestyle of eating Organic whole raw fruits and veggies; Grass-fed beef and dairy, along with moderate exercise, meditation - a stress reliever - are key to keep inflamation at bay and to stay healthy.

Supplements ensure you are getting the micro nutrients the body needs easpecially if you eat the garbage sold in most food stores. See how this Doc cured her progressive MS with diet and supplements..... http://www.terrywahls.com/

My father in law got a blood clot several months AFTER his doc convinced him to take a statin. While on the statin he had significantly lower energy and was depressed. I think in the long run the statin contributed to the blood clot not chemically but because it lowered his energy and he started sitting all of the time. I can think of a lot of other safer ways to lower inflammation (like eating leafy greens and avoiding sugar)!

From a quick glance at our leaders in Washington, DC, it is apparent that many have lived long lives riding in those stretch limousines and functioning without a brain or a heart.

More than half of our foods are full of harmful additives, including lots of hidden sugars! We have become a sedentary country due to all the technological inventions..We all need to get back to whole foods, especially fruits and vegetables, with very little red meat, but mostly lean chicken and fish only a few times per week..and nothing fried!

I agree with Whole raw foods along with Grass fed Beef and dairy. This doc is crazy. Processsed foods, GMO's and high fructose corn syrup cause inflamation which makes one sick.

A tiny dab of oil in each ear weekly is critical to a long, healthy, happy life. As most of the comments here confirm, more minds rust out than wear out. ~Charles Hedbring, programsteppe.com

And a baby aspirin a day can help prevent heart attacks and strokes, and can reduce your chance of colon cancer as well. There are risks and benefits to everything. You just have to weigh them for yourself, hopefully with your health care provider's assistance.

ok thank you for this..i have read and heard this perhaps I would try the baby aspirin every other day but wont taking Essential Fatty Acids (Krill not fish oil we need to save the oceans from over fishing!) help thin the blood? The natural approach is so much better...My vitamins, supplements and herbs and homeopathics have cured several maladies that seemed to need a doctors attention and then I went to work and researched natural remedies and fixed these things

i agree this guy is dangerous-recommending AGAINST vitamins? does he have any idea what vitamin deficentcy does to a person? maybe we dont have the amounts quite right, but i;d rather have some than none! you could take one every other day if you are worried about overdosing....and vitamins B and C are all wter soluable, which means you cant overdose since you pee out what your body doesnt use....scary.....

reducing stress and inflammation are good-just dont reduce inflammation with NSAIDs since they can cause kidney failure with long term use....

cant believe you allowed this guy to sound off on vitamins which have helped millions. he cant stand that people are taking health into their own hands and avoiding the doctor and healing themselves when they can..and often they can

and your medical background is exactly what, as compared to his? it is one thing if one has been tested, found to have a specific deficiency, and then takes the proper amount and usable form of the supplement. it is entirely another thing to simply believe that vitamins or supplements are actually doing anything without any medical or scientific basis for so concluding.

marked as fav by mistake ..there is no money in testing natural remedies or supplements because no drug company can profit from natural remedies and substances. i have cured myself from several issues researching natural cures and remedies and practicing supplementation. Its an 11 billion dollar market and growing because Americans are sick and tired of the pharmaceutical side effects business and the cut and surgery, inject it with cortisone business...you are obviously a physician who knows nothing about natural medicine and approaches. How sad for you. But I guess you made your big profits that way

I worked with many healthy older men when I was younger and here is their advice for a long life....Don't overeat, maintain your weight, eat fresh fruits and vegtables, keep moving, and you can have some bad things too, but in moderation., laugh often, and be kind to your fellow man and have good friends. Things I noticed, all ate a healthy breakfast, and all drank coffee..

i think working with your own two hands (real physical work rather than sittiing at a desk), is key. If you have a desk job-at least garden or do something like that....something that yeilds rewarding results.....

havimg a positive impact on this world is also a good suggestion. makes you feel good inside. So many people are too busy worrying about themselves....

Inflammation is the new buzzword for physical trouble. So he seems to be right on many levels. At least, he's a physician talking about prevention, rather than "treatment" once the storm has arrived.

I think living well is as important as living long.
05:54 PM on 02/06/2012
I get so frustrated by people who purport to know the 'secrets' to living longer. Unless you are 100 years old, in top shape, healthy, don't tell me. I equate them with people who tell you there is life after death!!!!

How could you possibly know anything that we all don't already know by using common sense, don't smoke, eat healthy, drink moderately, exercise and hope for the best?

not to mention, choosing good genes.......

wow great point! he was right about lowering stress though....but didnt give any insight on how to do so-and couldnt even give us an idea about how to recognize stress (and yet the anchorwoman could! shameful!)
