Healthy People Diet Supplements Recall

Posted: 02/ 6/2012 4:19 pm

WASHINGTON, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Healthy People Co is recalling 15 lots of seven different dietary supplements because they contain appetite suppressants or a drug for male erectile dysfunction, the Long Beach, California, company said.

The seven brands of supplements were sold at the company's store at 13105 Ramona Boulevard, Irwindale, California, Healthy People said in a Friday statement carried on the Food and Drug Administration's website.

Five of the supplements -- Mince Belle, Everlax, Ever Slim, Ever Slim Shake Mix Dietary Supplement Strawberry, and Ever Slim Shake Mix Dietary Supplement Chocolate -- contain sibutramine, an appetite suppressant.

Sibutramine can increase blood pressure or heart rate and has been withdrawn from the U.S. market, the statement said.

Two other supplements -- Perfect Men Dietary Supplement and Herbal Drink Acai-man Mangosteen Dietary Supplement -- contain tadalafil, used to treat male erectile dysfunction.

Tadalafil may interact with nitrates in prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may dangerously lower blood pressure, the statement said.

The statement did not say if any deaths or injuries had resulted from their use.

Absolutely. The whole garbage is being dumped to other countries and affecting lives in huge numbers.

Hey, how about some more complete reporting here. Tadalafil is better known as Cialis. Someone was possibly making some counterfeit or even legitimate product for Lilly in the same manufacturing plant. It's horrible that there was a mix up, but there is at least a possibility that nothing illegal was occurring.

Sibutramine, on the other hand, was actually pulled from the market in the US and had been pulled from Europe well before that...and the reasoning in both cases was safety concerns. So, why the heck was this stuff being made at all? What sort of factories are these companies buying this crap from?

Big Pharma uses factories in 3rd world countries......that's probably why it got into US supplied supplements.

A lot of stuff that's been banned in the US and Europe is still peddled to other countries.

Could be. There's an even chance that Big Pharma didn't have much to do with it. They're not exactly friends with the companies that make and sell 'counterfeits' of their products...and that's rampant in Asia right now.
