Man Accidentally Shoots Self At Georgia Gun Show

Man Shoots Self In Leg

02/ 6/12 06:58 AM ET  AP

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Authorities say a Georgia man is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a Savannah gun show.

Police say 26-year-old Charles Lake was leaving the gun show at the Savannah Civic Center around 5:10 p.m. Sunday when he discharged a round into his leg while re-loading his pistol.

Savannah-Chatham police spokesman Julian Miller says Lake bought the pistol at the gun show on Saturday and had returned Sunday to purchase another gun. Police say he was re-loading the pistol in the parking lot because loaded guns weren't allowed inside the gun show.

Savannah-Chatham police are investigating the incident.

Silhouette appears to be a Webley revolver with a bobbed, no snag hammer. Kinda big for a pocket pistol. Again, no relation to the "story".

HP's photo dept is notorious for using incorrect pictures. It most likely was a semi-auto, not a revolver. No one said it was a pocket pistol.

What's to investigate? He shot himself. Guns are dangerous. Thankfully, he didn't hurt anybody but himself. Even if his weapon was defective, which has happened to me, I can tell you from personal experience that it pays to keep your weapon pointed in a safe direction.

Well, for one thing if he did not have a carry permit, he may be guilty of unlawful carry. So they have to look into that. Then, they may want to see if the firearm was defective. They may also want to verify that the shooting was accidental, not suicide, not due to an argument. Is he a prohibited person, or was it legal for him to possess the firearm?

As you can see, there are several things to investigate.

HP as usual! Headline doesn't match story. You just had to take a shot at gun shows. The man was not at the gun show. He had left the show and was in the parking lot. As stated in the article, loaded guns are not allowed in gunshows. They are checked at the door and disabled with a zip-tie.

Not ready to graduate from toy guns yet. Though maybe he bought a defective one. Or alcohol, drugs/medications, mental/emotional impairments.

He had no business at a gun shoe, especially to buy another gun.
He is too stupid to own one.

Question #1 Did he have a carry permit?

Question #2 What make and model was it?

It happens when you lose focus or forget the basics of firearms training.

That's correct. Keep the weapon pointed in a safe direction and you'll be ok if you mess up and fire the weapon. It is or should be one of the first things you learn.

the silhouette picture looks like a webley with the hammer cut back. If this is what he used how did he manage that? The gun shows should be outlawed, and or banned along with high capacity clips-magazines, and every person that owns guns should have a mandatory class once a year on firearm safety. gun safes and or gun locks should be mandatory also.

The picture is likely a stock image and has no direct relation to the story.

your total message didn't make it too this page I will say if one should buy any firearm away from a licenses gun store then paper work should be filed and make sure the person can in fact own a firearm. you need a high capicity clip of 6 or more rounds to get the "job" done? ask the good gogress women and the rest that were shot to define high capacity clips or magazines

I'll agree to what you want, if you will agree that the internet MUST be limited to 300 baud rate, shows where computers are bought, sold, traded (many fewer than gun shows, BTW) are banned, no computer sold to the public can have more than 64K of memory, total, and everyone who uses a computer must have a mandatory class annually on the knowledge and use of this dangerous product. Maybe a computer safe, with mandatory child proofing software, and a program that will automatically inform the police if the user access child pornography. That wouldn't violate the 1A, would it?

This guy SHOULD NOT have a gun and I'm hoping does not have a concealed carry permit.

If he does he needs to have his permit revoked.

Thats probably good news Conservative. Hope he can take a gun safety course and get it back afterward. I hate to see these type of Plaxico Burress type accidents.

The anit-gun folks just love to see things like this happen.

Sounds like he needs a course on Gun Safety

Gun safety rules: Never point a gun at anything you don't intend to shoot; always assume a gun is loaded; always check a gun every time you pick it up to make sure there aren't any rounds in it.

i currenty own a few guns of my own, a Smith & Wesson 45, 38calibre pistol, a .22 pistol and a 12 gauge shotgun that are always under lock and key and i'm the only one that has a key to the gun case, and the spare key is locked up in a separate room.
