SANGER, Texas — Country singer Randy Travis has apologized after being arrested on a charge of public intoxication outside a North Texas church.
Denton County sheriff's spokesman Tom Reedy says police in the town of Sanger arrested Travis early Monday after spotting a vehicle parked in front of a church and finding an open bottle of wine and Travis smelling of alcohol.
Reedy says Travis, whose hits include "Forever and Ever, Amen," was brought to the Denton County jail about 1:30 a.m. and released six hours later.
The singer, who lives in the small town of Tioga near Sanger, apologized in a statement to The Associated Press "for what resulted following an evening of celebrating the Super Bowl."
Travis, who launches a concert tour Friday, says he's "committed to being responsible and accountable."

Assessing the story here I have to question him being arrested. In a parked car recovering from celebrating the Super Bowl? Just what danger to himself or society is that? If that is all it was then I hope the judge throws it out but then "Big Brother" is not prone to do that.

What is the big deal? Randy Travis was drinking wine in front of a church. He is a great singer.Even those who are famous have a right to party a little. Randy is a very caring person.At least he was parked and knew enough not to drive. This charge should be tossed out. You saying that none of you drink and drive! I find that hard to beleive.Unless you never drive!!!! Give the guy a break. He was watching the game.

LOL! Are you joking or being sarcastic? I don't know what they do in Texas, in most states, sitting at the wheel of a motor vehicle while intoxicated qualifies as DUI. So it seems he got a break already as he was only charged with public intoxication. Fortunately for Travis, he was prevented from driving while intoxicated by his arrest and possibly injuring or killing himself or others on the road. Anyone with any sense knows the police are on the lookout for drunks on the road during, and especially after, the Super Bowl. Sorry, no special treatment for celebrities or notable people, break the law, pay the price (including the walk of shame), no exceptions. He should consider himself lucky that the worst thing that happened to him in that condition and situation was being arrested and probably being hungover in lockup.

If the vehicle was not running and he was sleeping in it, how can that be public intoxication? Staggering down the street drunk as a skunk would be more in tune with that charge than sleeping in your vehicle.
