Stuart Weitzman Launching SW1, A Luxury Accessories Line

Stuart Weitzman's Risky New Line

While designers like Jason Wu and the Versace house are seizing the recession to channel their design wares into budget collections for Target and H&M, Stuart Weitzman is instead creating a new, higher-priced line of his signature stilettos.

Weitzman recently told the Washington Post that he wasn't interested in jumping on the designer collaboration bandwagon, and almost as if to prove it, he's announced the launch of SW1, his new luxury shoe and accessory collection, Women's Wear Daily reports.

This shouldn't be shocking for the man who recently revamped his famous "Million Dollar Shoe" to be even glitzier. But still, in a time when fashion is trending towards the more affordable, this new luxe line might raise some eyebrows.

While Weitzman's pumps currently price at about $300, the new styles in the SW1 collection will retail from about $595 for satin and suede pumps to $995 for boots.

This is also the first stab at designing handbags for Weitzman, who attributes some of his success to the fact that he owns the factories that produce his creations. The new bag line will range from $800 to $1,500.
