Elton John Pepsi Super Bowl Commercial: Ad Also Stars Flavor Flav, Melanie Amaro (VIDEO)

Elton John made a Super Bowl commercial appearance in Pepsi's new ad, playing a harsh King who's pretty stubborn when it comes to his music taste. It's simple: If you can't sing, not only do you not get any Pepsi but you get dropped down into a dungeon.

When Melanie Amaro walked in and blew the crowd away with her stunning rendition of "Respect" by Aretha Franklin, John merely said "Fine" and gave her a Pepsi can... only to get fooled by singer. Amaro dumped the King into the dungeon where, for some reason, Flavor Flav was staying.

For years, viewers have tuned into the NFL's Super Bowl as much to see what the advertisers roll out as how the two teams vying for the sport's top prize perform. This year was no different. Each time that NBC cut away from Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots a hush came over most Super Bowl parties as everyone -- and not just the diehard sports fans with a rooting (or betting) interest -- focused entirely on the ads.

While iconic Super Bowl commercials like Apple's '1984' and Coke's ad starring Mean Joe Greene will be remembered so many more are soon forgotten or, even worse, ridiculed as super fails.

How does this Super Bowl ad stack up?

This is racist, because he is not a king, but a queen...

I hated this commercial. Children today are already being conditioned to 'forget the old' because 'their generation is setting the standard for today." However, they are growing up during the tumultuous times that have changed all before them. That "Sir Elton John" is "discarded" because of some frikkin' American Idol winner? Give me a break. And the commercial is bad for American ideals. Grrr... I love Elton John, and I love American Idol. But this TV commercial...if you can think that objectively outside of the 'entertainment' box...is a real problem for me. After all, this is the same type of television that conditioned our kids over the last 10 years to think that "bling" and "billions" have 'always been' within the reach of anybody that wanted them. And what did we get out of it? Bailouts of values that nobody could have previously conceived as even possible. This TV commercial is insulting, and bad. Period (at least in my book)!

At least in your book? And where would that book be, filed under "fiction"?

Well, the uneducated are always the last to know they're uneducated. Good luck with that.

You missed the punchline of the joke–after Elton John falls into the dungeon, he discovers that he is with Orlando Jones...the former 7Up spokesman...duh!

That is Flavor Flav not Orlando Jones.
