Tony Bennett And John Mayer Sing 'One For My Baby' (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/ 6/2012 6:55 pm Updated: 02/ 6/2012 6:55 pm

Tony Bennett has had his fair share of star-studded duets in recent months, and now he's taken the stage with a suit-clad John Mayer.

The 85-year-old singer, who released his Grammy-nominated album "Duets II" in August, performed an old-fashioned rendition of "One For My Baby (One More For The Road)" alongside Mayer on Bennett's PBS special "Tony Bennett: Duets II" on Friday night.

Whether or not it has to do with his spunky duets with musicians like Mayer, Lady Gaga, and Michael Buble, the "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" singer shows no signs of slowing down.

"You should always keep going," Bennett told The Huffington Post in September of last year. "I like that philosophy. Because the people I've met, that retired, they regretted it. They're looking at wall and they don't know what to do with themselves."

What do you think of Bennett and Mayer's duet?

I love both these artists. Bennett is before "my time" & Mayer would probably be considered " after"...I took my three daughters on both the "Mayercraft" ship concert events. The first was the only one My husband went on, and only because Brett Dennan was there (we think he was jealous). Anyway, we have so many wonderful memories from those trips & they have absolutely nothing to do with the "thong incident". It was purely the music! John was more "pure" back then, before his Anniston "experience".
I applaud his efforts to return to his "roots". A life/career threatening diagnosis has that effect on people, sometimes? I hope he begins to understand that he was perfect as he was in the beginning...way back...and his quest should be like that of the classic artists, like Bennett, to perfect that natural talent for what he wants to express in his heart, to the people.
Thank you,

It would be nice to listen to but as always these bits are so fragmented that it isn't worth the time.

And yet here you are commenting. You should listen to it. It's the whole song, sounds good and they seem to be having fun doing it.

As I wrote before, on my pc it comes in fragmented as do a lot of news stories. Some do, some don't so I don't know where the interference is coming from.

Tony....enough with the duets....maybe he should sing alone...hey, that's an idea!

Tony America Hater Bennett blames America for 911. Beat it Tony, go sing your songs in another country.

Read the article...we are not talking about Bush. As for the bile, it seems you have swallowed all Mr. Bennett has to give...way to go America Hater!

What a voice Tony Bennett has!!!!!!!!!! Not too many singers of his generation left. I'd love to see him in concert, but until and unless I do, I have his cd's to get me by. There are up and comers who try to imitate and emulate him, but they don't come close, so as long as Tony wants to continue singing, and putting out his cd's I'll continue to listen.

I saw him about 8 years ago do a concert in the park in Atlanta .... worth every penny !

Tony Bennett is a national treasure. He's still got it. The voice, the magic. I enjoy him more now than I ever did!

I like Tony, but at this point he would duet with a doorknob.

Very nice. Bennett is honey gold, Mayer's voice works well with his, and is surprisingly good in the jazz mode.

I agree! Jazz has always been Mayer's strength..let's hope he finally stops fighting it now.

I have Duets II and love it so much! I know it's rather unusual for a 20 year old to listen to Tony Bennett but how does one not love him? I love the classic old school sound. It doesn't hurt that John Mayer still has sex appeal even with the new hobo look of his. lol. All kidding aside, he's super talented and after seeing him live, he's probably one of the most gifted artists right now.

You are so right, he definitely needs a stylist! All that superficial stuff aside, I agree, he definitely has the potential to measure up to quite a few of the classic artists that we all know &love. Hopefully, if he has learned a few life lessons, he will be able to rise above all the nonsense & distractions to become the artist his fans "know" he has the potential to become.

Pretty much it in a nutshell. But I think even Mayer has figured out that trying to be the cleverest boy in the room was short circuiting his career.

Not a Mayer fan, but Bennett never disappoints having enjoyed him in concert twice, and have a couple of his CDs.

I saw the program that showed all of the duets and greatly enjoyed it. Mr Bennett is a very giving talented singer and that showed so much during the tapings of each performer with him. It was a delight and I purchased the duets #2. Thank you Mr Bennett and others.

Well said & I think my husband (as a man) would agree with you completely! Most women I know are not threatened by his "persona" in the media.
