Syfy has renewed its hit reality competition "Face Off." The show, now in its second season, features make-up artists competing for $100,000 in seed money to help further their special effects career. Season 3 is expected to start production in the spring for a summer 2012 premiere.

According to Syfy, "Face Off's" second season premiere on Jan. 11 was watched by 2.5 million viewers.

The Wed., Feb. 8, episode of "Face Off" will feature Vivica A. Fox and "Being Human" star Sam Huntington. LeVar Burton of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" fame will guest judge on the Wed., Feb. 22 episode. In Burton's episode, the remaining designers will be tasked with creating original alien creatures from series judge Patrick Tatopoulos' sketches. Two people will be eliminated at the end of that episode. Burton will sit on the judging panel alongside three-time Oscar winner Ve Neill and special make-up effects artist Glenn Hetrick.

In addition to the $100,000 prize, the winning artist will win a year's supply of Alcone make up products and a 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid.

"Face Off" airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST on Syfy.

i love watching the talent and creativity of this show at work... my only beef is with categorizing competition programs as "reality"... when i think "reality show," i think about the kardashians or jersey shore - totally useless... instead, those competing on this and other shows for a large prize or a leg up in their chosen careers, are actually trying to accomplish something meaningful...

I have never seen the show but if it is a game show, I agree with you. They call Who Wants To Be A Millionair and other night time game shows reality shows. I don't think Fera Factor is a reality show either but that is what they call it.

I would rather watch Paula Deen cook a rump roast than watch this idiotic waste of air time. SciFi has some really good shows like Stargate SG-1 and some of the Vince Ventresca movies, but watch these "talented" people is like watching a kindergarten class work with play dough!

I'm glad SciFi recognized the value of programming that showcases genuine, unique talent that requires not only imagination but the hands-on skills to back it up.

Love this show, I love learning how they make some of the special effects (make-up) that they do. Talented people are always interesting to watch. This season they have some really brilliant people

The History channel has more "alien" programming then Syfy does, go figure!

The History channel has more reality shows than I care to watch! Used to be a decent channel!
At least with wi-fi can watch what we want to watch, not the reality crap!

I love this show! This one and Top Shot really showcase peoples talents beyond the singing and dancing junk I hate. I wish they would bring back Stan Lee's "who wants to be a superhero"!

This show bores me to tears - just waiting on GH. All along I was thinking it was dying a slow death. Guess it's gonna be slower than I thought.

I also find the show very boring. I watched it a couple of times and that was it.

Keep at it, Syfy. Pretty soon you'll have zero actual scifi programming, which is your whole goal, isn't it?

While I do wish SyFy actually had more "scifi" programming, this show is pretty interesting. Those artists can do some incredible things; my husband even watches is it with me.
