Another brilliant move by Google on their path to world domination... now that they've taken over the content world building a 200 billion market cap off the backs of other people's property... their next move is to take over the telecom world too. Once people see Kansas City's speed... all the other big cities' politicians will stand in line begging for their service. So not only will we cease to make money at the content level, but we will also stop making money at the telecom level too. That's right, no one will pay for internet service when they can leech off of any wifi network for free...you could download a year's worth of shows at a trip to Starbucks. The only winner in this scenario? That's right Google. Well, we'll also think we're winners too, until one day we realize that half of our wealth has been downloaded overseas.

Slightly late to the game here. Chattanooga, TN has had fiber optic service since early 2011, with TV, phone, and internet service via EPB's SmartGrid. I have 30mbps service now - up and down (the slowest available, with 50, 100, and 1000 available to both residential and business). I left Comcast without looking back and have been very pleased with EPB.

That's a pipe dream phaze. No pun intended. Let me see them provide that sort of bandwith to everyone.

I already have FIOS, but glad to hear this because it helps keep prices competetive.

We are talking 100 times faster than FIOS or ATT UVerse. You know like in Seoul !

A fiber connection is by default 1gb per sec. FIOS can do that since it runs on fiber. The difference here is that Verizon does what cable companies do in trying to squeeze every penny from the customer by breaking down the connection into speed packages. So my package is 20 dl / 5 ul. Google claims they will give everyone the full 1gb bandwith, but that remains to be seen. It has to be shared somewhere along the line. If they did though, that would be great. The details of these connections are important, and we will see as time goes on.
