Meet A Black Person: Improv Everywhere Diversifies Aspen (VIDEO)

Aspen, Colorado is probably best known as a remote ski destination, but it's also one of the whitest cities in America. Less than .5% of the city's population is black, so the people over at Improv Everywhere decided to step in and blow people's minds by introducing them to a black person while they were there for a comedy festival.

Comedian Colton Dunn did the honor of sitting in an empty hot chocolate kiosk at the foot of the mountain and greeting passersby as they went about their days, and was very warmly received by locals and tourists alike, who all seemed to appreciate the joke.

The only confusing comment came from a Norwegian woman. You'll know what we're talking about when you see it.

The footage is from 2006, but has recently been remastered for our viewing pleasure as part of Improv Everywhere's 10th anniversary celebration.

I live in an area of Wisconsin that is 95% white, 3% Latino, 1% Hmong and 1% Black...yeah...and I hate the lack of diversity. Its as if there is an imaginary line north of Madison that not many people of any color dare to cross.

I love what this guy did, it was ballsy and funny. Yet kind of sad considering its 2012!!

Sweetie... have you been living in a can on a remote island? We have a man in the Whitehouse whose mother is white and Americans have LOST THEIR MINDS! It's got nothing to do with your DNA. If you look even a little black...YOU'RE BLACK! End of story.

Good question and lesson about race in America. I'll answer it seriously, without the patronizing, snarky tone of mrman. I was watching "Who Do You Think You Are", a show on NBC with celebrities looking for their family's heritage, and Emmit Smith, the former NFL RB, was looking into his family tree. At one point he had a DNA test done, which indicated that he was around 75% African. Well, the woman conducting the test said that he was one of the highest she had ever tested, which tells you that it would be virtually impossible for an African-American to be 100% African.

My wife is from China and one of her nieces got a DNA test. She found out that she had some German heritage, probably from 200 years ago. My guess, it was a naughty catholic priest (her hometown has been catholic for at least 300 years), but it goes to show, you just never know!

Maybe the Improv should do some touristy buses to Hunters Point and the Fillmore in San Francisco, or the projects in New Orleans to meet some real Black people. See if the folks there think it's funny.
