Jeremy Lin Leads Knicks Over Wizards, 107-93 (VIDEO)

02/ 8/12 11:09 PM ET  AP

WASHINGTON — Jeremy Lin had 23 points and a career-high 10 assists, and Tyson Chandler scored 25 points and had 11 rebounds to lead the New York Knicks to their third straight win, 107-93 over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday night.

Chandler, a 10-year NBA veteran, finished two points short of his career high, but it was again Lin's night. Following his two breakout games of 25 points against New Jersey and 28 in Monday's win against Utah with a dazzling display of his passing and shooting skills, Lin was 9 for 14 from the field, and five of six from the line.

Steve Novak added 19 points for New York, which won its eighth straight over Washington and earned its second three-game winning streak this season.

Washington dropped to 5-21, and failed again for its first two-game winning streak of the season. John Wall led the Wizards with 29 points, but he was easily outdone by Lin.

When the Knicks last played here on Jan. 6, Lin didn't play at all. With their two leading scorers missing – Carmelo Anthony gone for a week or two with a strained right groin and Amare Stoudemire mourning the loss of his brother – New York desperately needed Lin's scoring this time around.

He didn't single-handedly make up for the 40 points that Anthony and Stoudemire provide, but sure energized the decidedly pro-New York crowd.

The fans cheered louder for Lin than for any other player in introductions, waving Taiwanese flags and signs _including one that read: "Linning and Grinning."

The Knicks shot just 25 percent in the first quarter and trailed 23-17. Lin missed all three shots he attempted, and moments after the third, he was called for his second foul – a block against Wall – and sustained a gash and left the game with 4:06 to play.

The second quarter was much better for New York as it outscored Washington 35-23 to take a 52-46 halftime lead. Novak hit four 3-pointers.

Lin returned about two minutes into the second quarter and scored eight points – on three layups and a pretty 17-foot bank shot just before halftime. He found Novak for all four of his 3s.

Lin scored on a bank shot to start the third quarter, and after Washington scored the next 10 points for a 56-54 lead, he hit four free throws, another layup and a right-handed dunk with 2:59 left to give the Knicks a 72-66 lead. He made another layup to end the quarter with 12 points – and a 77-68 New York advantage.

The Wizards narrowed the deficit to 79-72, but Lin and Iman Shumpert, who had 11 of his 17 points in the quarter helped give New York a 103-85 lead with 3:22 to play.

Notes: Five of the seven Knicks who scored were in double figures. ... New York G Baron Davis, who hasn't played this season due to a herniated disk in his back, will return to practice on Thursday, coach Mike D'Antoni said. He's not sure when Davis will be ready to play. ... Stoudemire will return next Monday. He's scheduled to miss four games. ... Washington F Rashard Lewis missed his second straight game with a sore left knee. ... Trevor Booker had 17 points for the Wizards.

Please, The Wizards? The worst team in the MBA. My daughter's BB team could whip the Wizards. Not much competition there.

It's extemely premature to start acting like he's a star but I do wish the guy well. He's played 3 games all against teams that aren't doing very well. NJ, Utah, Washington... These teams are struggling and D Will has been in a slump this season so don't take that too serious. With that said anyone scoring 20+points and getting around 10 assists a game has done well. Let's talk about his success after a couple months worth of play and see if this keeps up.

I love the fact that Jeremy Lin is getting all this attention. It definitely shows that one can be successful athletically and academically. Check out these hilarious & awesome GIFs and memes I posted about Jeremy Lin: http://www.trendyblackguy.com/2012/02/jeremy-lin-knicks-gifs-jpegs/

I know that this is just after 3 games, but I'm glad to see the excitement over well-rounded play. His assist numbers will make him popular with the rest of the players, if he can keep it up.

He is only a possibility at this point, and I wish him well.

I have one question: Why couldnt MSG Network waive the blackout so Knick fans could watch the game last night on NBA Network?

Also because his religion is not displayed as a part of his game. It's a part of his life. He doesn't turn every contact with the press into an infomercial for religion.

Tebow has a lot to learn from Jeremy.

Knicks are way better without Melo just like the Nuggets. He is super-overrated.
03:44 PM on 02/09/2012
thats beyond silly........have fun waiting for these nuggets to get to the conference finals for one thing. And as for the Knicks.....not only has he been injured, the team was playing without a pg.....the true excitement will be if Lin is still playing like a solid pg when melo and amare are back

Considering how unwatchable my Lakers are (especially on the road), I'll have to start tuning in to the Knick games now. :)

The Knicks play way better without Melo----just like the Nuggets do. Melo is the most over rated player in the NBA.

Im a knicks fan and i am so happy we seem to have a PG... but all this talk like the guy is in the elite levels is a little premature. it takes time to develop a high basketball IQ. You look at chriss paul, derrick rose and a few other PG's and it comes with playing the game night in and night out....

when he destroyed derron williams the other night we have to remember d will had played consecutive games and has been playing all season. Most of the nba is out of shape due to the lock out (or better yet not in mid season shape) and jeremy Lin was on the bench almost all season so he is freash.

lets just not get ahead of ourselves on this one..
02:52 PM on 02/09/2012
You make a fair point. I am not ready to assume he will be a big time scorer, or that he will destroy the top pgs in the league one-on-one, but I am very excited over his ability to see the court, make good decisions with the ball, and make precise passes. Those qualities alone fill a desparate need, and figure to elevate the team

I just love it! Go Jeremy! The Knicks have a new point guard who scores!

The most unselfish player in the NBA. His baketball IQ is superior than anyone else.
He sees the open man or cutting player way ahead than any other player.
New era found in basketball.

What about Steve Nash, Rondo, Paul....hell even Rubio is getting 13, 14 assists in some games. This guy's calling him superior and the most unselfish.. Why isn't he leading the league in assists then?
