NEW YORK — Hotels in New York City have agreed to equip their employees with panic alarms that would summon help in case of an emergency.

New York Hotel Trades Council spokesman John Turchiano (tuhr-shee-AH'-noh) says the provision, which must be implemented within a year, is part of a new seven-year labor contract that the Hotel Association of New York approved last year.

Turchiano says the provision was not spurred by the Dominique Strauss-Kahn case.

Authorities had charged the former head of the International Monetary Fund with attempted rape after a hotel worker said she was attacked in May. The criminal case was dismissed after prosecutors said they lost faith in her credibility.

The agreement was presented to the union on Tuesday. It is scheduled for a vote on Monday.

O well, ... "America (US), land of the brave ......." as long it makes some $ ...

Of course, many Americans are brave, I think in particularly to those guys in the military doing their duty and fighting wars (just and legal or not) decided by others (who usually don't send THEIR kids to those wars), AND many, many other brave people.....

However, what next??? A panic button in case the lights go out, in case some foreigner (brrrr) asks you some information in a strange language, in case you don't find the bathroom, .....
But of course ,....CYA (cover your hum....). From now on, if in a hotel a female (and male????) staff is victim of a rape or rape attempt (real or not), is not equipped with this device, the hotel might/will get sued as well .......

I love the States and (most?)their people. It's a great, beautiful country, in many ways, do have many friends over there and I visit the US several times a year, .... but some times you wonder..
