The University of Florida temporarily suspended a fraternity this week after officials learned of a "serious physical hazing incident," CNN reports.

The fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, is currently under campus police investigation. According to the Tampa Bay Times, a student was seriously injured in an alleged hazing stunt.

Details surrounding the incident are still hazy, but Univ. of F spokeswoman Janine Sikes told CNN that officials believe it occured a few weeks ago, though they were not made aware of it until this weekend. University President Bernie Machen emailed students on Tuesday urging anyone with information to come forward.

The investigation comes just months after a marching band student at Florida A&M University was killed in a hazing incident. 26-year-old Robert Champion's death was ruled a homicide.

According to its website, Alpha Phi Alpha is a historically-black fraternity founded at Cornell University and has a firm policy against hazing. The University of Florida also has a strict no-hazing policy.

Frats should all be suspended! They facilitate the party culture that corrupts college kids and attract the slackers who take the loan money without learning a thing in four years. This is a far cry from the organization that MLK joined!

You can get more inside into why the black frats haze in an old documentary called burning sands. they sell it on amazon.com. pretty good and shows the brutality, which isn't just in ethnic frats but high school sports, college sports, jobs, etc. If you read the Texas anti-hazing laws, the toughest in the union, they state you can't even look alike or walk in line. And if allow yourself to be hazed the state can even prosecute you, the victim!

We can pretty much figure that out . . . here's a more insightful analysis - about a very sought-after historically black sorority with an interesting history and culture (many women from my town are members/alumnae - and many, many more should be):

Thanks for the link. My father was an Alpha as I would have been had the fraternity been on my campus. My mother was an AKA for life. I still remember the scholarship luncheons and her sorors moving ceremony at her funeral.

If UF felt the need to crack down, you know it was serious hazing.

Here comes the fratbashing. Rally the frightened moms and gather the socially frustrated freshman.

You must be one of those people that makes outlandish, broad generalizations as to why people join fraternities, I take it?

We get it, you weren't in a fraternity, but the point is NOT everyone is like you and not everyone joins fraternities for the reasons you listed.......self righteous dou che.

Why on earth does anyone want to be in a club where you get harassed and brutalized?

Gangs have been popular for ages. Frats are nothing more than white collar gangs.
