Victoria Beckham Oscar Dresses In High Demand: REPORT

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 02/ 8/2012 2:13 pm Updated: 02/ 8/2012 2:45 pm

Armani, Versace, Marchesa, Prada... and Victoria Beckham?

The British designer may be included in the list of red carpet credits when Hollywood's biggest stars hit the Oscars in two weeks. The Daily Mail reports that Victoria Beckham (the brand) is in high demand, causing Victoria Beckham (the person) to work overtime to provide dresses for clients.

So who are the A-listers who are jonesing for one of Posh's sleek, minimalist creations? The short list includes Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron and Cameron Diaz, whose stylists have been calling in requests.

A spokesperson for Victoria Beckham told the Daily Mail, "We do have requests in from stylists for the Oscars, but as our team is so small we don't have the opportunity to custom make dresses like the bigger fashion houses."

Which means, we presume, that any dresses that are worn will be straight off the runway. As popular as Beckham is among the fashion set (her seasonal presentations are always a hot New York Fashion Week ticket), her designs don't exactly exude red carpet glam. With no glitter, few long hems and modest necklines, the runway looks seem better for a chic city street than an awards show stage.

Not that there's anything wrong with that. We just have a hard time picturing Gwyneth or Charlize crossing the Oscar stage in a Beckham design.

Then again, we also never thought we'd see a jewel-encrusted jumpsuit on the red carpet and Rose Byrne proved us wrong.

Read more at DailyMail.co.uk and chec out Victoria Beckham's Spring/Summer 2012 collection below. Could you picture Gwyneth, Charlize or Cam in any of these ensembles?

Well I'm not that very into fashion but I LOVE Victoria Beckham's dresses and adore her style!
If I could afford it, I barely wouldn't wear anything else.

Saw the dress Eva Longoria wore to Hollywood Style Awards? A dream!

The Victoria Beckham outfits are nice - especially the cloud dress and the slinky pink fishtail one that Cheryl Lloyd wore. But what on earth is the commentator saying? I couldn't understand a word. Does anyone understand her? Please will someone tell her to enunciate properly, not mumble with an incomprehensible singsong cadence.

They are nice, very nice but not for this kind of a formal occasion.

What makes the writer of this article/blog think that Gwyneth and the rest will choose any of her dresses from the S/S 2012? VB' S/S 2012 were created not for the Oscar-like events. If they were to choose, they will wear her Oscar-worthy gowns from the previous seasons, particularly those in 2010 and 2011. If you go and look back, there are several dresses worthy for the Oscar's red carpet. Gwyneth and the rest just need to accesorize them and be a little bit creative as her designs are simple, yet beautiful and comfortable.

Victoria Beckham's an excellent designer. But I sort of agree with the article, in that it will be difficult to translate her style to the Oscars red carpet. I guess we'll have to wait and see. There's got to be a reason that Gwyneth and the rest want to pursue her designs.

And there's nary a better-dressed woman on the planet than Posh. Gotta love her.

Every time I see V Beckham I cringe, as she was the original chavy wag who thought it's stylish and classy to have orange skin and make money talking about a footballer or the handbag he bought her. I'm fed up with being told I have to see that as stylish. Even though I'm proud to be British, I'm hoping England get knocked out of the first game in the Olympics, as she will be milking her husband's involvement for all the attention she can. Complete with tacky photo shoots of her baby girl with a desinar (how she pronounces it) handbag.

V Beckham has tried everything else for attention since her solo pop career failed, as she can't do anything without using other people. She's very stupid as when she was taken to see starving children in Africa she talked about her handbag. As a British person, I think it's sad if a failed pop star who isn't stylish can have attention as a designer, when there are people with more style who shop in discount shops.

That last model looks like she is ready to keel over! She is so thin, it is disgusting! Look at those legs and then tell me how anyone could ever think that she would be an asset to their clothing line. Might as well parade a clothes hanger...

Clothes are simple and unpretentious - who woulda thunk it? Why do these runway models always have to look either bored or pi$$ed off?

It's because they are hungry.

Unless it's Victoria's Secret, models are not supposed to distract from the clothes. No smiling, waving, interacting. Just walk down the runway and walk back.

There's only a couple of pieces in that slideshow that someone over a size 2 and over 25 should even go near. I liked some of her dresses from last year but these are just not visually pleasing. Unless she has some special designs for evening wear, I couldn't imagine her clothes appearing on an Oscar red carpet.
