The Huffington Post     First Posted: 02/ 9/2012 12:50 pm   Updated: 02/13/2012 12:53 pm

After two days of intense voting and commenting, we are now in round two of the Best Jesus Movie bracket challenge. There were a few close calls, and many movies won by an overwhelming majority. However, only eight movies have made it to the second round of our bracket challenge.

Four movies will move ahead to the penultimate round of our Best Jesus Movie bracket challenge. But what will those movies be? "The Last Temptation of Christ," "Jesus Christ Superstar," "Godspell" or any of the five below? You decide with your votes, comments and tweets.

What do you like about your favorite Jesus movies of the eight below? Be sure to let us know in the comments. If your favorite Jesus movie did not make the bracket, tweet to @HuffPostRelig with the hashtag #bestjesusmovie. So far, many of you have rooted for "Gospel of John" (2003). At the end of the challenge, we will highlight one people's choice movie.

Voting for Round Two has now closed. Click here to vote go ahead to Round Three.

Passion of the Christ. Best Comedy of that year. Not as good as The Hangover though.

The Passion isn't comedy, it's porn.

Nah, the best Jesus ever wasn't even in a movie. Check out Christopher Moore's book "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal". It somehow manages to be both hilarious, poignant and incredibly respectful all at the same time.

From slapstick humor to a sly examination of politics, friendship, faith and it's true meaning, it never disappoints.

That's my plug.

That was the first book of Moore's I read. It wasn't the last!

Moore's books are brilliant and laugh-til-it-hurts funny.

The Passion of the Christ is by far the truest depiction of what really happened to Christ according to the Bible! It was not a pretty sight on the day of Christ crucifixion ,it was brutal!!

In fact, there is nothing realistic about it at all. Whipping with a flagellum will kill a man in ten minutes or less. The long drawn out sado-masochistic violence of the movie is, fortunately, a wild over-exaggeration.

"Star Wars" is more realistic than Gibson's presumtive gore-fest.

For the record ~ the guy you call "Jesus" via the movies is a figment rendition of an active European imagination ~ because YAHshua was Hebrew/Israelite even before being deemed a Jew i.e., from Judea.

With that said ~ hands down, Jesus Christ Superstar WHAT!

The Life of Brian every time. Excoriating expose of the ridiculousness of cult worship, no matter how large or established it may become.

The irreverent satire roasts convention at every turn.

Lisping emperors, the Judean Peoples Front .... (or was that the Front for the Judean Peoples?), alien visitations during an intergalactic battle, blessed are the cheesemakers, singing around the crucifixes, Latin lessons..... brilliant.

Sure it is. Jesus had a cameo role.. Sermon on the Mount.
02:52 AM on 02/12/2012
I would have to say Jesus Christ Superstar, it really added dimension and depth to all of the characters.

I just took a class on Jesus in Film last term so I've actually seen all of these movies and most of the ones which have been voted out already. But the list misses two excellent movies: Son of Man, a movie that came out in the 2000s and is set in modern day Africa and The Miracle Maker, a British animated movie! If you haven't seen them, check them out!

Did you ask about the movie "THE PASSION"?
Extraordinary SUFFERING, yeah, and no doubt very real,
all i needed to know is this is His love and for me that movie did it! (REAL)
Personally, self flagilation would not have gotten me there, for to mortify the deeds of my flesh,
is in some a doctrine or belief that is practiced.
Believability is strong because you can't seem to get passed it to a greater imagination.
(Frankly, some imagination needs to be lessoned in all pictures of FICTICIOUS NATURE 'GORE'.)
I would note to that the writer-director must have some CHARACTER in terms of his study
of the subject to bring it to such vividness on the screen...
that's all i got on this!

Why do all the Jesses look like Nordic gods or French noblemen instead of someone from Jerusalem / Middle East 2000 years ago?
