MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell responded to what he considered laughable statements made by Donald Trump during a CNN interview earlier this week.
The "Celebrity Apprentice" host discussed what cabinet position he may want if GOP candidate Mitt Romney were elected president and he was asked.
Trump said he had not discussed a cabinet position with Romney but would be open to helping Romney and America. He said he would be interested in a position that allows him to "negotiate against some of these countries because they are really taking our lunch."
O'Donnell responded to Trump's comments. "Ok Donald, I know you don't know much about this government stuff so I'm going to help you out. The job you want is U.S. Trade Representative. I know you've never heard about that so let me explain," O'Donnell said.
O'Donnell went on to describe the confirmation process, which includes a thorough vetting process and confirmation hearing. "Your tax returns would be plopped down...studied by the [Senate Finance] Committee chairman and any member of the committee who asked to look at them. And you've got to believe, all of the senators would want to look at your tax returns," O'Donnell said.
O'Donnell ultimately said that he would not have to worry about senate confirmation hearings. "Mitt Romney would never pick you to negotiate trade deals with the Chinese," O'Donnell said while laughing. He added that the Romney family would not even allow Trump to wash their car because, according to O'Donnell, Romney knows Trump is a "buffoon" and "unconfirmable joke."O'Donnell later said that the closest Trump will ever come to negotiating with the Chinese is through his Twitter account.
