In Bilbao the tram runs thru a greenway also.

FYI in LA most wide boulevards with a big median in the middle usually meant that a street car ran down it at one time-like Santa Monica, Glendale and Venice Blvds.

The rising price of oil will make us all think more about our energy use. When the price of gas gets to $4, $5 or $8 a gallon we all try to reduce our energy usage.

We will walk a little more, ride a bicycle a little more, and take mass transit a little more.

We will also move closer to our jobs and schools and in general spend less time in the car.

you have to deal with it's negative myth and change the dynamic from it being a uncool sign of lack of success to something interesting and hip. Much like the simplicity of turning a bus stop into something hip by putting a coffe sh hip setting around it. But on a culture wide basis.

So Hollywood needs to get off it's rear end and develop a cheers/friends on a train project. Setting bar car of a rail transit system. Cast a cross cultural mix ofrom young students to business professionals interacting on the buss ride home in sit com fashion. Place it not in a NY but someplace lest metropolissy more gritty more real america.

Make a hit and change the perception and acceptance of transit overnight.

Routing is key. Unfortunately those who understand how to route public transportation systems are subsumed by those more interested in politics and payola than moving people. Systems are properly routed pay for themselves.
