Jasper Aristotle Smiddie Stabbed Grandmother Nearly 100 Times, Shot Her With Crossbow, Florida Cops Say

A 19-year-old man is accused of murdering his grandmother after he allegedly stabbed her nearly 100 times, struck her in the face with a wrench, and shot the elderly woman in the head with a crossbow.

Police in Florida arrested Jasper Aristotle Smiddie at approximately 11 a.m. on Wednesday, one day after the teenager confessed the brutal killing to his father by telling him that he "did something stupid," according to an arrest affidavit obtained by the Huffington Post.

During the phone conversation, Smiddie explained that he "blacked out and woke up 2 hours later with blood all over his hands and his grandmother," the affidavit says.

The suspect's father reported his son to police on Tuesday following the confession, allowing authorities to find the young man the next day, according to NBC Miami.

Police discovered the grandmother -- 67-year-old Gloria Helfrich -- in her bedroom, where Smiddie left her behind a locked door.

Investigators believe that Smiddie killed his grandmother so that his uncle -- who he hated and originally plotted to kill -- would suffer seeing his mother dead, according to FoxNews.

"He decided, 'Well, I'll kill my grandmother instead so that my uncle has to live with the death of his mother for the rest of his life,'" Sheriff Grady Judd of the Polk County Sheriff's Department said, according to Fox.

It remains unclear why the suspect hated his uncle.

Hello Sheila, my mother, Gloria Helfrich, took Jasper in when no one else would put up with his lying, stealing, and drug use. She gave him a place to live, bailed him out of jail, paid for him to go to school (from what I can tell he just dropped out, but I'm really not sure since you can not trust anything that comes out of his mouth) and always tried to help him. My mom was not stupid, and she knew he was headed to prison if he did not change, but she loved him and tried to help him. When he tried to run off with his underaged girlfriend, my mom and my brother (his uncle) sat down with him and told him no more care use or money, and that he had to either get a job or go to school. And his response was to PLAN (he told his friend and grilfriend days before what he was going to do) to brutally kill his grandmother, causing as much hurt to his uncle and family as possible, steal her cash and car, and run off with his underaged girlfriend. He was not abused at my mother's house, he was the abuser. And he did not "snap" he planned it in advance.

For the life of me, I just cannot understand why so many feel the need to kill their children, spouses, parents, grandparents and other loved ones when it's so simple just to walk away and turn your life in another direction. I realize murder has been around since the beginning of time, but it just apalls me that people can be so heartless and then think they can get away with their heinous crimes...

Fed feet first into a wood chipper would be less than a punk like him deserves.I say let his Uncle have a few hrs alone with him so they can find where they went wrong in their relationship.Then the janitor can come in and scrape the punk up off the floor and flush it.

Hello Jonathan, as another uncle of the "punk" I will say that similar thoughts have gone through my mind. I will have to content myself with knowhing that the "punk", who I already knew to be a lying theif, will spend the rest of his life in jail, however long or short that is. And then he will rot in hell after that. He killed the one person on this earth who loved him the most, who took him in, bailed him out of jail, paid for him to go to school, and did everything she could to help him. And all he did was steal from her, lie to her, and then brutaly kill her. He deservies whatever he gets.

A person commits a crime and they ask 'why' did they do it??? Is that really important? If you did it and admit to it or are proven without a doubt that you did it, that is all that is needed.
Then a SWIFT end to your life ...end of story!!!!!
