JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Jersey City taxpayers won't be footing the bill for police assigned to security for the women of "Jersey Shore" and all the attention that comes with them.

New Jersey's second largest city has issued a permit to producers to film a spinoff of the reality series, featuring Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi and Jenni "JWoww" Farley. Filming is expected to begin later this month in the city's Grove Street Path neighborhood.

Police spokesman Edgar Martinez said Thursday the production company in charge of the show will pay for off-duty police officers to provide security and will pay for any additional officers if they are needed. In addition, he said, the production crew won't be taking parking spots from residents but will use pay lots.

Nearby Hoboken last week denied the show a permit to film, citing safety and quality of life concerns for residents of the city along the Hudson River.

Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy said he believes the show is an opportunity to promote the city.

Lots of Jersey City residents are not too pleased. But at least it's providing some very entertaining wall posts from my Jersey City friends -- Check out how ridiculous this gets:

Wow...all the time to try to clean up the city and now the trash is invited back in by the mayor - please keep them out of Newport or it's time to move to Hoboken where the mayor still cares about her people enough to deny the permit. And just curious, what does Healy think he IS promoting by allowing this???

Mayor Healy you have promoted Jersey City so hard that its own residents can’t even cross a street or shop here anymore. Do us all a favor and stop promoting our town!

Dear New York,

Please keep your trashy Long Island girls on your side of the river.

Thank you,
New Jersey

That particular neighborhood is upscale and very tame/family oriented. Unless MTV has them going into Manhattan to party they're going to be pretty bored in downtown JC, unless all the show plans on having them do is go the the gym, go tanning, go the supermarket, and eat at the Indian buffets.

These people are idiots, that's why.
That's why I'm happy. Their "New Yorkers pose as cartoon versions of false New Jersey stereotypes" is going to fail so epicly because they know so little about New Jersey.

Frankly, I love it. Hoboken told them they couldnt film there, as did the better clubs and bars in Jersey City, and they have to have a police escort where ever they go, while being confined to an area of about 14 sq miles. The city is basically milking MTV for money, and giving them jack in return....and the dummy producers dont seem to understand that the real New Jersey (as opposed to an area of the shore filled with tourists from New York during the summer) is not actually with trashy Gumbas having rave parties.

Jersey City, LOL, it's Yuppies, hipster college kids, working class black families, and Asian immigrants.
Good luck Jwoww and Snookie. Bwahaha

Love Jersey Shore! However, I question Jersey City as a rich venue for the setting of this new show. I mean - really - have you visited Jersey City? It's not Hoboken by any stretch except for geographic proximity. Maybe the show expects to jump to Manhattan a lot and simply use it for the launch pad and proximity to NYC. I also agree with the blog poster on the unnecessary pronunciation tutorial. Sadly, most of the web bloggers are very young and extremely inexperienced. They simply follow the model they learned in school, but don't have the depth or breadth of experience to know judicious application of certain journalistic features. You can almost guess the generation of the writer by their use of language and writing style.

To your last comment-yes, as you can in any point in history. It is a part of our culture: evolution in more ways than one, speech, interaction, entertainment, etc. America is constantly growing and changing. It is up to the people who have respect for America and it's youth to teach them. Teach them the right values and morals. Show them the correct model, if the one you think they learn is incorrect.

NOTE to the Author:

RE: The "pronunciation" of Morrill....
" City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill (MOR'-ihl) says ....."

Sorry.....but putting the "pronunciation" of Morrill in there was absolutely
unnecessary.....as the MAJORITY of the reading public has enough
intellect to KNOW how to pronounce it without your assistance....

Snooki an JWoww....on the other hand......might possibly need it....
