If you read this wonderful article again, they are trying to trademark the name "Blue Ivy Cater". Maybe that's why the first 2 were rejected. Huffpost, do you EVER proofread your articles??

Can I patent my name? Or did Sir Conan Arthur Doyle already do that?

if that baby ever gets as important in either of their minds as their money it might have half a chance

This story is so stupid, What I read was that a fashion company or designer attempted to trademark the name Blue Ivy Carter to design a clothing and baby gear, a second company attempted the same in order to have a perfume line, that's when the parents decided to do it. both of those were rejected and was told the name belong to a famous baby and that only her parents had the right to trademark it. If I was in their position I would do the same . Why would others benefit from this child and not the parents? these stories are so untrue. they made it sound like the parents were the ones who try to trademark their baby on those 2 previous times and that's unfair.

Jay-Z and lady B, my apologies. I did not know at first why you decided to patent your baby's name. You are right - and god hundred miles in doing so. This country ruts- everything is greed and capiatalism which sucks. If you don't patent your angel's name, greedy Wall Street will start selling clothes and other items exploiting your baby's good name. America sticks with capitalism and this is why I wonder if the Christian faith I share is the same one the socalled evangelicals share when they support greed and wars. Go J and B - you are right to do your thing.

I like Jay-Z and Beyonce as well as their little angel. But to say that they want to patent her name goes too far. It just shows the stupidity of the United States lifestyle. I don't really like the name even though I love the family - I just think it is unreasonable to do something like that. What make them to think that they have monopoly on names. Are they English? If the British or English had patent all English words and names, I do not think Jay Z would have had the name Sean Carter and Beyonce would had the name B. Knowles. Look B and J, you guys need to visit Africa and cultivate some values. This country as robbed you of some of that.

It seems these two will stop at nothing to make a buck. Between Beyonce shaking her big behind for the son of a terrorist for a couple of million, who is also known for his abuse against women, to her significant other trying to sell tee shirts to jobless ows folks. Now trademarking their daughter's name. Shameless.

The shorter version:

"No one can be allowed to exploit our daughter's name for profit. Except us."

I'm sure that she has a legal reason for doing this.

Of course, she's not trying to stop others from naming their children.

But a patent will stop a company from profiting off the baby's name recognition to sell products.

And when the baby grows up, her name won't be synonomous with "Blue Ivy (insert product here)"

Smart girl.

"Blue Ivy" already sounds like a stripper name anyway.
