Every Apple Product In 40 Seconds: Video Shows 36 Years Of Design Progression (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/10/2012 2:11 pm Updated: 02/10/2012 2:16 pm

The boxy 1984 Macintosh, the colorful "Flavor" series of iMacs, and the first-generation iPod are commonly cited milestones in the evolution of Apple design. But true fanboys will fondly remember there were more than a few flops along the way.

Over its 36-year history, Apple's designers have tried their hands at everything from cameras and keyboards to "message pads" and awkward round mouses.

But Rob Beschizza, managing editor of Boing Boing, wanted to give credit where credit was due, so he decided to make a montage of every Apple design he could find.

"I'm a Sony guy, at heart, but even if each of its products were given only a single frame of animation, such a video would not end before the heat death of the universe," Beschizza said in a post on Boing Boing.

Luckily, Beschizza's montage clocked in at 39 seconds, more than enough time to get your daily recommended dose of Lisa, G4 Cube and the "Hockey Puck" mouse.

Check out the video above to see how many designs you can spot.

I am so glad my father had his wits about him when he bought me a 1088 and a 286 PC computer when I was growing up.

This time their pro-Apple advertising didn't ever attempt to pretend that there was a news angle.

To think that I've never owned a single apple product and not planning on owning any of their stuff in the near future. I think now it seems like the unique thing to do. I also like rooting for the underdogs.

For about 25 years, they were the underdogs. Get some apple in your life. Ease of use, reliability, and just dead sexy. Never had one single blue screen, reboot, locked up problem (eh hem everything microsoft) in the 3 years I've had apple products. Would be nice if the workers who made them weren't committing suicide however.

The concept of sexy products is lost on some people. I use that term to describe some aircraft, such as the F-4 Phantom II.

neat idea, but it's one of those things you don't want to rush. 40 seconds is too fast to really appreciate the changes. I wish the video was slowed down a bit so that I could reflect on the "oh yeah, I remember that one...." but it goes so fast that it just makes me dizzy.

The late 2011 Imac is their all-time best product. The macbook pro was too fragile, and their gadgets are both unnecessary and are hand-made by slave labour. Not a big fan of any other Apple products, but that said the new Imac is easily the most beautiful and portable desktop computer of all time.

I love the concept, but it went just way too fast! Cool video, though!

I love the socks! Apple has been selling them since 2004. No one ever mentions they are due for an upgrade... lol

What's the concept behind them? Its just a piece of cloth that they're selling for twice what its worth.
