Greg Kelly, NYPD Boss' Son, Returns To 'Good Day New York' After Rape Claim (VIDEO)

By ULA ILNYTZKY   02/10/12 08:23 AM ET  AP

NEW YORK -- The New York City police commissioner's TV host son resumed his morning show duties at "Good Day New York" on Friday, telling viewers it had been a tough couple of weeks but he was ready to get back to work after being cleared of the prospect of criminal charges of raping a woman he met for a drink.

It was Greg Kelly's first day back on the job since he took a leave of absence from the show after the allegations surfaced late last month.

Sitting next to his co-host, Rosanna Scotto, a relaxed-looking Kelly said, "It's great to be back. Folks, thank you very much."

"It's was a tough couple of weeks, obviously, for a lot of people. I'm very, very grateful for all the support I got here from my friends at Fox, support from my family, friends, those I care about."

He also thanked his viewers who "have weighed in through social media. Positive remarks. Thank you very much."

Prosecutors on Tuesday said they had not found cause to charge Kelly with a crime.

The woman told authorities that Kelly raped her in her lower Manhattan office after they went out for drinks on Oct. 8, assaulting her while she wasn't capable of consenting to sex, a person familiar with the investigation said. She told authorities she became pregnant from the encounter and had an abortion, according to a law enforcement official. Neither the person nor the law official was authorized to speak publicly, and they spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

The New York Police Department turned the matter over to the district attorney's office when the woman walked into a police station Jan. 24, citing the potential conflict of interest in investigating a son of the commissioner, Raymond Kelly.

During his brief remarks on the show Friday, Kelly did not mention the allegations.

At one point, he put his hand on Scotto's and said he was especially grateful "to this lady who sits next to me every day."

The show airs on the local Fox affiliate, WNYW-TV. A former Marine, Kelly has appeared on "Good Day New York" since 2008.

i've been following this since jan. the posters on this thread keep talking about corrupt cops, kelly is dirty, the system is corrupt..........if her case was rock solid, that she was raped, keeping in mind that her father is a well placed lawyer and she works for Cullen&Dykeman a law firm, then why hasn't she filed a civil lawsuit against kelly!!!...........

So it has nothing to do with the facts? You do know her father is a rich lawyer with more money than the Kellys, right? All you are in another NYPD hater. And your claims make you look silly.

No, you have no clue. You need to get your head out of the sand and stop with the slander. There are over 35,000 NYPD officers. You think theyre all bad? Of course there are some bad ones. Theyre human, and humans are not all good. But people like you make it difficult for the good ones to do their job.

No. The bads ones make it difficult for the good ones to do their job. Skeptics like Levya make us aware of the need to demand a just and fair society with ethical law officers.

You know what is disappointing? You assuming that he "got off" because his father is a high ranking police figure. DId you even read the article, or any articles regarding this? I hope no one ever assumed your guilty because of who your father is. Ridiculous.

I have very little respect for the NYPD after seeing them in action at Zuccotti. The white shirted senior officers were the worst. Every white shirt I came across had formed a view of the protestors and where gratuitously loud and abusive about the occupiers to anybody passing by.

Despite my antipathy toward the NY cops there is no evidence that they performed in anything other than in a professional manner with regard to Mr Kelly.

Having misgivings about the NYPD gives us no licence to impute criminality on the part of Mr Kelly or the police dept.

Conspiracy theories absent supporting evidence are the province of wingers at Fox Nation, The Daily Caller, WND, Big Government et al. It's vital that Progressives give 'conspiritorialism' a big swerve.

I have seen the NYPD and their offspring in action. They have much to answer for. The recent killing of a teen in The Bronx is the latest outrage that will of course see the cops get off scot free. New Yorkers are sick of it.

The headline SHOULD have read: "Greg Kelly, NYPD Boss' Son, Returns To 'Good Day New York' After FALSE Rape Claim."

The Manhattan District Attorney's office investigated the claim instead of the NYPD, because of the obvious conflict of interest.

District Attorney spokeswoman Joan Vollero said, "Earlier today, the District Attorney’s Office sent a letter to Andrew Lankler notifying him that we would not be filing charges against [Greg Kelly] ...We conducted a thorough investigation, consistent with standard practice. That investigation included interviewing numerous fact and expert witnesses, and reviewing and analyzing multiple items of physical evidence, including, but not limited to, receipts, security logs, text messages, and telephone records. After reviewing all the evidence, we have concluded that the established facts do not constitute a crime under New York criminal law.”

The woman who made the false claim had a boyfriend, cheated on him, got caught and tried to cover up the affair and the subsequent flirtatious text messages that continued FOR A MONTH AFTERWARDS by claiming she was raped. Nice.

A man's reputation is destroyed by the mere accusation of rape, as evidenced by the number of people here who automatically take the accuser's side without even knowing the facts.

The woman should be charged, tried and sentenced to the same amount of jail time Kelly would have faced had he been convicted.
02:53 PM on 02/11/2012
What evidence do you have she got caught cheating and fabricated rape charges? I never heard this happen in real life, it is only argued by lawyers in "consensual sex" defense. DA office works hand in hand with police department, so there is a confict of interest. Special prosecutor should have been appointed. How dumb do you think we all are?
04:54 PM on 02/11/2012
in your case pretty dumb.......if you were following this since the beginning of jan. you would know that Morpheus was spot on with his post. the DA's special Sex Crimes Unit is headed by Martha Bashford, ( what do you know a ' woman ' ) this done so people like you don't start screaming bias all over the place. the cheating evidence was established by the police when they down loaded everything on her cell phone. the same pictures they uncovered are the ones her own boyfriend found and questioned her about. you see this ' mensa ' individual decided to take pictures of herself with kelly, right about the same time he asked her why are you pregnant, seeings how i have a vasectomy so i couldn't be the father!!!! there's plenty of info out there now on all kinds of sites if you want to find out whats really going on...............

Agreed. I am no fan of FOX and never heard of Gregg Kelly until reading about this incident. This story did not ring true on several levels.

The way this story was reported it appeared that the accuser invented a narrative when her boyfriend found out. It never made sense to me why anyone would jepordize their employment by bringing someone back to their office instead of their apartment after an evening of fun and drinking and continue to keep in contact by phone and text afterwards.

Not to mention that if she was so drunk how did she know how to find her office building and have her I.D. handy to get past security? I'll bet there was lobby and elevator video.

It just seemed that she couldn't go home because her boyfriend was there thinking she was working late. Then she waits several months to contact the police when she found out she was pregnant but conveniently aborted before getting DNA evidence and making a serious accusation.

Only the individuals involved know the full truth and sadly this is just another example that makes it so difficult for women who are violated to come forward and be believed and men who are falsely accused to defend themselves.

I'd never heard of Greg Kelly either. I only watch Fox for House, Family Guy, etc and FX for Louie and Justified. Other than that, all things Fox are anathema to me.

I just withheld judgment either way until I saw the facts and once I did, a different picture than the one so many commenters here were drawing began to form - one of innocence and being wrongfully accused.

Far be it from me to defend a Republican or a Fox employee, but plain and simple, Kelly didn't do anything wrong.

This case propbly was not investigated properly since his dad was police commissioner. This would make his dad look bad. This should of been investigated by the State Police not NYs

NYPD and DA office work together. Don't think people are so naive they don't know that.
